Has anyone been to Sandals in Jamaica. Recommended for honeymoon in November 2009?? What are the best Sandals resorts for price. Will be flying from NH

Sandals Negril is one of the best resorts we have ever stayed at in Jamiaca.In fact, it is the only resort in the caribbean that we have gone to multiple times.If price is an issue, Sandals may not be the best choice. Sandals is on the upper side of price range.

Whitehouse is the newest, never been but heard its nice. Currently weighing these two myself, and many love Dunns River on the other side of the island.

Couples resorts are little cheaper, but Swept Away supposedly has one of the best spots on the Negril beach. I've heard to compare their highest end rooms to the Concierge level at Sandals as far as price and what you get.

Sandals Dunn River in Ocho Rios gets the highest praise for a Sandals resort in Jamaica. The Whitehouse outside of Negril is second.

yes, but I hear Dunn River is a smaller resort so you may not get as much privacy? depending on what you are looking for, while Whitehouse is huge and spread out.

I also have been told, if you can afford it that Royal Plantation is awesome

If you want to do anything outside of the resort, I would recommend Negril

We have been to Sandals MoBay and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure this is exactly what you want for your honeymoon. We're -hopefully - looking at going to Whitehouse. It's broken down into three villages and nestled against the sea. That may be a better choice for you. Be aware that I am told that the road winds quite a bit and you're sort of isolated. You can still take excursions, but they're not close by.

how far is Sandals Negril or Whitehouse from the Ocho Rios area, to get to where Royal Plantation is

Approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Royal Plantation is well worth the extra money. Remember, you can use all the sandals/beaches resorts in Ochi when you're at one. Ocho Rios has several properties so you're not limited to just the one you've booked.

Whitehouse and Negril are more like three and four hours from Ocho Rios. OR is two hours east of Montego Bay, while Negril is an hour and a half west while Whitehouse is just west and all the way down on the south coast. Not a trip you're going to be interested in taking.

Janied is right about the choices in OR - Sandals Ocho Rios and SDR are only about twenty minutes apart.

Same goes in MoBay - SRC (our personal favorite) is all of 10 minutes tops from SMB, and the Inn is about another 10 minutes over by the so-called Hip Strip.

Check there website, Sandals and Beaches are having great specials, we saved 55% and a free nite at beaches in Provo for 9 nite trip in November.

HI goldnugget, I've stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean, Grand Ocho Rios, Whitehouse and Royal Plantation, and have done day trips to all of the remaining Sandals in Jamaica with the exception of Sandals Negril. I think what is the "best" Sandals resort depends upon your personal preferences and what you are looking for in your vacation. Personally, my favourite was Royal Plantation but it is considerably more expensive than the others. Sandals Whitehouse was my second favourite Sandals resort, but it is more "remote" from other tourist sites than the other Sandals, so one question would be whether you want to do excursions or just veg out on the resort.

Another resort chain you might consider is Couples resorts - we prefer this resort chain to Sandals, in large part because to us, they feel like they have a more Jamaican feel and laid-back vibe. We also like that Couples doesn't have the stratification or "class system" between room categories that Sandals has - at Couples all room categories have the same "access" to restaurant reservations and beach chairs, whereas at Sandals the butler rooms have "reserved' beach chairs / beach umbrellas, and butler and concierge rooms have special access to restaurant reservations, so you may find that you have to book a higher category room at Sandals in order to get services you want / need. Again, it does depend what you are looking for.
