Sandals Antigua room with a view

We are going to Sandals Antigua for our honeymoon in July. As far as the room goes I don't care about the size. I want a perfect view of the beach/ocean. I was going to book the Honeymoon Oceanview Suite, but was told that the only rooms that guaranty ocean view is the Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room. Is that the best room type? Also I have never been to the Caribbean before let alone Antigua so any advise would be great.

We honeymooned at Sandals Antigua last year and really enjoyed it. We also stayed in the Grand Luxe Beachfront Concierge room. These are the only rooms guarenteed to have an ocean view. The room is not large, although very comfortable and kept incredibly clean. We found it to be the best as far as location becuase you are about 10 steps from the beach and you aren't far from the main building. The views are great. We could see the beach/ocean from our bed and even while taking a shower!

The resort is great for a honeymoon. It has a real laid back and romantic feel to it. We are big beach people and Dickenson Bay is beautiful. We really enjoyed having use of the watersports equipment.

Food is good, although not spectacular. Some meals stood out more than others. They really cater to honeymooners. We had a candlelight dinner one evening (steak and lobster - lobster was great) and there were even flower petals on the table. Drinks are also good and plentiful. Be sure to try a dirty banana - very good.

If you have any questions, please ask. Congrats and enjoy!

Antigua is a really neat island with a lot of history and fun-loving locals. We spent a week there in '98 and it was the best vacation we've ever taken!

BE SURE and go to the Sunday night party at Shirley Heights! There will be steeld rum music until sunset, then a reggae band takes over. All of the island is there, and it is a great party! Bring your camera for sunset photographs, because the view from Shirley Heights is spectacular! Oh, if you do drink, arrange for a ride back to the resort.

Also, take a day jeep tour with BoTours. We drove all over the island and learned a lot about its history. The lunch that was included was delicious local BBQ, and we enjoyed the stop at Half Moon Bay, too.

If you feel like snorkeling, both the Kokomo and Wadadli Cats stop at Dickinson Bay to pick up passengers for their day tours. Depending on the day, they do several different cruises, including a circumnavigation of Antigua. You can book them online and save a ton of money over the inflated rates that Sandals charges.

I too am planning a honeymoon to Sandals Antigua. We want a room right on the beach but I heard that the concierge rooms aren't worth the extra money. But for the ocean view I think I'd be willing to spend it. Anyone have any opinions?

We actually didn't leave the resort except for one day to go shopping in St. John's. This did not impress me but we wanted to bring back things for our friends and family. If you're interested in doing this, you can pay $10 per couple through Sandals and they will take you and drop you off for 2 1/2 hours and pick you back up.

I have heard a lot about Shirley Heights on Sunday nights. This is supposedly not to be missed. Being on our honeymoon, we did not want to do anything but enjoy the beach and each other! I also wished we had parasailed. You can do this from Dickeson Bay, and I believe it is $40 pp (missing all this gives us a reason to go back!) You may also check into Antigua adventures (www.antiguaadventure.com - I believe). A guy named Eli runs this and knows all there is to know about Antigua. He will take you around the island for snorkeling, stop on a beach for lunch....and maybe a few others thing. All the info is on the web site. A good site to check out is Antigua Bound which is a community on MSN Communities.

ering, again I felt that the Grand Luxe Beachfront Concierge were the best location for beachfront and conveience. Some of the Rondovals are beachfront but you are not guarenteed to get one that is. The honeymoon suite (the highest category) has only 2 rooms that are beachfront.

I felt that the concierge service was good for making dinner reservations. They have blocks reserved for concierge guests only, so you can call them and they may have a time open where as the front desk may not. We also liked having the refrigerator in our room for bottled water and beer. You may also request anything you would like to be stocked in your room (including liquor). So it's all a matter of personal preference.

Any more questions, please ask!
