Sand Flees?
 

My husband and I finally booked our trip to the Caymans, thanks to all of the great advise from travelers! But I have been reading various trip reports on other forums and I have noticed a couple of times people mentioning "tiny bugs that bite" and that many people they saw had them. It sounds like sand flees to me. Anybody have any problems with obvious bites while in the Caymans? <BR>

The best way to handle little bugs and mosquitoes is with a product from Avon called "Skin-so-soft", it is good for your skin a moisturizer and the bugs hate it, so take some with you and you won't have a problem. <BR> <BR>tweedy

In Nov of 98 in the Caymans noticed red spots on my lower legs after not noticing anything biting! In Nov of 99 no bites at all! Was it the "no see ums" people talk about? I'm not sure!!

If you'd like to prevent being bitten by sand fleas, start taking a Brewer's Yeast tablet every day for 2 weeks before you leave, and continue while you're there. This WORKS!!

We just returned from Antigua and I got horribly bitten by the sand fleas there - stay off the beach at sunset, that's when the little monsters strike! - the best remedy for "after the fact" is a topical ointment (I think its called) "Cala-Clear" it's a combination of calamine lotion and Benadril (sp?) (look for a white bottle with a blue-greenish cap) - it was a life saver for us - it's clear so you're legs won't turn pink but it quickly dries up the bites to heal them and take the awful itch away. I won't leave home for any tropcial place with it from now on.
