san juan shopping

We will be in San Juan for thee days in 10/03. We always hear about good jewelry buys in the Carib. Are there any good buys for clothes in San Juan?

I don't think SJ is duty free though I could be wrong about that. Anyway don't expect clothes to be cheap if you are considering designer labels. Old SJ is good for T-shirts and the like. PR rum is cheaper too.

San Juan has duty free shopping, but designer labels might be a little expensive. It also depends where you will be staying, because places like Condado have great local and international boutiques. In Old San Juan, you might find better deals on labels like Coach, Ralph Lauren and Dooney & Bourke.
Also, consider visiting Plaza Las Americas. It is the biggest mall in the Caribbean and it has lots of stores.

Welcome to Puerto Rico.

You'll find some designer outlets in Old San Juan, for example Tommy Hilfiger). There's a huge designer outlet (sorry, forgot the name) on the way from San Juan to El Yunque (ask your hotel). Also great for shopping (clothes, shoes) is Plaza Las Americas.

Yes, the posters above have good info. The designer outlets in the old city are not that cheap, but a little cheaper than buying the brands in a non-outlet store. The outlet mall on the way to El Yunque is called Belz Factory Outlets. Plaza Las Americas has great clothing stores. Also, there's no sales tax on clothes or jewelry in PR.
