San Juan is nicer than a lot of people think. But the service is soooooo slow. The El San Juan hotel is my favorite it has great places to eat entertainment and a great casino. Old San Juan we ate at about 3 places there can't remember the name but they were all good. Have a good trip

We have been to Puerto Rico five times. My favorate
place. We have stayed at the Cerromar (old and new) now owned by the Hyat. This was an all inclusive place. It was wonderful but very expensive. Yes, the people are very sloooow. What ever you do DO NOT BUY GOLD THERE. Bought a ring there was suppose to be 14K got home and it was 14K overlay. Needless to say it was sent back and we stopped payment on our credit card. With green fingers and all I would go back again. HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!

I've lived in Puerto Rico for 25 years, so I guess you could say I'm an expert on the subject. If you're planning in staying in Old San Juan, I recommend the El Covento Hotel, located on Calle Cristo (Cristo Street) across from the Cathedral. It's been recently renovated and is quite beautiful. A Wyndham Hotel has recently been opened located in front of the docks in Old San Juan. Bests places to dine in Old San Juan: La Mallorquina (Puerto Rican), Al Dente (Italian) El Yuquiyu (Japanese) and La Chaumiere (French). One of my favorite restaurants is located in Miramar (five minute cab drive from Old San Juan) and is called "Augusto's". It's expensive, but first-rate in all respects. The wine list will knock your socks off! If you're on a budget, the Metropol restaurant (there are 3 in San Juan) are great for sampling Cuban food and fresh seafood. Things to see: Bacardi Rum Plant, El Morro Spanish Fortress, La Fortaleza (governor's mansion), University of Puerto Rico's botanical garden, El Conquistador Hotel in Fajardo, Puerto Rico--one of the most beautiful resorts in the Caribbean is worth the 2 hour drive from San Juan. And, of course, El Yunque, the Rain Forrest. I disagree with the "CJ" experience of purchasing gold. He/she probably purchased from a street vendor. The jewelry stores in Old San Juan are very reputable. Another plus--there is no sales tax within tourist zones, i.e. Old San Juan & Isla Verde on jewelry. The trick is to bargain. If they say the price is $500, bring it down. The ticket price is only for opening offers. Best beach: Luquillo on the north side and Cabo Rojo on the west side (3 hour drive from San Juan). Have fun & bring you walking shoes!
