San Juan Paradore or B@B?
Has anyone stayed at one of the four paradores in San Juan? We are looking for pre-cruise lodging for two or three nights and prefer small B&B type places. Comments about any of the local paradores or any other small inn in San Juan would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Hi Betsy! Please provide us with more information. I was not aware that there were 4 Paradores in San Juan (I thought they were all "country inns" outside of San Juan). What are the names of the 4 Paradores?
Alternatively, if you prefer a historic location to a beach location a B&B in historic Old San Juan has received praise in the past - The Gallery Inn (www.thegalleryinn.com). If you go to www.prtourism.com, they have information on lodging in San Juan as well as links and pictures (click on "Where to Stay" and "Travel Planning", there's different information on each section).

I checked www.prtourism.com because I also questioned the existence of "official" paradores in San Juan. My assumption was correct; there are no paradores in San Juan. There are small inns in San Juan, including The Gallery Inn. You can find info about them at

Like Mariarosa, I also recommend The Gallery Inn in Old San Juan. I stayed there for 3 nights this past summer. You may also want to look into Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan. Good Luck.

Thank you Mariarosa and Adrienne
I'm heading over to the Escape to Puerto Rico, Gallery Inn and prhta sites to research lodging options. Appreciate the jump start! We found a last minute great rate on a cruise out of San Juan and are using FF miles from San Francisco. We'll be staying in San Juan two nights pre-cruise and one night post-cruise. It looks like Old San Juan is the type of area we like, so if you have recommendations there in addition to the Gallery Inn, please feel free to advise.
I may ask more questions about specific properties after searching those sites.
Thanks again

Hi Betsy! I have also heard great things about Hotel El Convento (a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World - a friend of mine spent part of her honeymoon there in a suite and loved it). Their website is www.elconvento.com. In Old San Juan there's also Hotel Milano (http://home.coqui.net/hmilano/), which is a good option for those on a budget.
All of these places are VERY close to the cruiseship port.

Betsy -
I just returned from San Juan. I recommend you get out of SJ if you have the time b/c SJ is a pit - dirty, run-down, and slimy people. Many abandoned restaurants and hotel, especially in Condado and Old San Juan. I stayed one night, then checked out early and went to Fajardo.
The Fajardo Inn in Fajardo was a great parador (it's listed on the prtourism.com website). It was more of a hotel, than a B&B. Very clean and friendly. Inexpensive (<$100). It's close to the El Conquistador, also - great for a day trip to the Golden Door Spa or El Yunque Rain Forest.
