San Juan lay over

Next month we'll have a 6 hour lay over in San Juan. It's about noon - 6. I'd like to take advantage of that time and see something in San Juan. I was thinking about El Morro, Old San Juan or dinner. Do you think we have enough time to do a little sightseeing? Any other suggestions on what we should try to see?

Thanks!

Old San Juan for sure - charming area of San Juan with alot of history, you can walk around the fort, do a bit of shopping in some of the outlet stores, have a late lunch/early supper then head back to the airport

We had 6-hour layovers on both ends of our Grenada trip a couple of years ago. We checked our carry-ons in the luggage service office in the airport ($3/bag) and then headed to Old San Juan, enjoying lunch both times, and then exploring the old city, El Morro, etc. Of course, this was pre-9/11, so I don't know how much time you'll need to check back through security on the way back ... you may, as a practical matter, have less than 6 hours to spend.

I would have thought that you need to be back at the airport by 4:30 to be safe - no later than that. Which leaves you about 3 to 4 hours to have a bite and explore Old San Juan - very doable in my opinion. Whatever you do, do not stay at the airport as there is nothing there - SJU is simply not a good airport for a layover - the food is expensive and it is crap, not a whole lot of interesting stores to browse...go to Old San Juan and have fun!

Thanks for your great advice! I was going to look into lockers, so I'm glad to hear about the luggage service office. I will definitely be aware of the time and get back in time for our next flight

Allow at least 20 to 30 minutes each way by taxi to and from the airport. This is with factoring in traffic and that can be a problem, especially on the return. Also allow at least 1 1/2 hours for checkin.
A taxi will cost at least $16 each way. I believe the rate is fixed.

I've got a similar layover and planned to explore Old San Juan. Are there any buses/shuttles to & from the airport. Also, what would be a good starting point in OSJ. Thanks
