Safety Issues

My friends and I are planning a spring break trip to Jamaica and one of the parents recently expressed safety concerns and wants us to change our plans...Is Jamaica that unsafe?? What would be better and safer for a group of college kids who aren't looking to spend a fortune.

Remember the single still missing travel writer? By the way does anyone have an update. I thought I heard her parents were on Larry King. I have to agree with one of the parents.

Brandi: As a mom also, I would not want you and your friends going to Jamaica unless I extracted a firm promise NOT TO LEAVE THE RESORT (except for hotel-sponsored excursions). Just back from Negril, on the resort's own beach, there were locals constantly (politely) offering pot, mushrooms, coke, etc etc. You can get in enough trouble within the resort - I hate to think what could happen if you struck out on your own...

Mom

I would have a hissie fit if my kids wanted to go there for spring break. There are much nicer places to go where you don't have to worry about leaving the resort grounds.

Take some partying kids, a little booze and this is a scary situation. I'd want my kids to go where I didn't have to worry about them 24/7. somewhere you can bee-bop around the island and feel safe!
