Safety in Negril
Hi, we will be vactioning at the RIU Tropical Bay this April, and are curious about the security at the resort and in the general area. We have been told not to worry from many people, but we would appreciate any comments from those who have stayed at the RIU or in the surrounding area. Thanks in advance.

We have not stayted at the Riu but have at other resorts in the area and you are perfectly safe on the resorts. All the resorts in ENgril (or the larger all-inclusives) have security at the front gates and fenced off sectionsof the beach to keep allvendors out.

IF you do go off the resorts, the people of Jamaica are rather pushy to sell you stuff but a firm and polite NO does the trick. The people are Jamaica are very friendly adn as long as you use the same street smarts as you would in any unknown city, you are fine. The area of Negril too is far morelaid back and safer then larger area's like MoBay.
We have been to Jamaica 6 times and never encountered a problem.
Penney

Thank you for your help.
We can't wait to go.

On or off the resort in Negril you're fine....the only time I personally opt for a cab instead of walking is after midnight or so.

Thank you.

Just got back from a three week stay in Negril. Safety wasn't an issue. Peddlers are aggresive the first time they see you, but after that they leave you alone. They can tell if you just got there or not by your tan. Hint- hit the tanning booth.
