Safest island in the eastern Caribbean
Can someone tell me what is the safest island in the Eastern Caribbean? That is a big priority for me when I go on vacation this winter.

I certainly have not been to every island in the Carribean. But having been to many, the only places that I felt safe, in the Switzerland sense of safe, were Bermuda and the Grand Caymans. Both seemed so clean, well ordered and prosperous. I spend two weeks in Burmuda and I never saw anything approaching a slum.

I wholeheartedly agree with Vic -- BUT, you can also add St. Barts to that list as well. You can SKIP all others in the Caribbean!!

I live in Antigua and feel very safe living in Antigua. St. Barts is a lovely little island, however "the rich and famous" form a larger percentage of their visitors than any other island and that fact alone makes it a higher profile than the other islands. It is also the most expensive island in the area and that will be a major consideration for many.

Anguilla is fairly safe. The smaller islands with limited tourist traffic (Saba, St. Eustatius) are also very safe.

Peter Island (one Hotel) island, Jost Van Dyke BVI-------Palm Island, Petite St Vincent, both solo hotel Islands. Also I stay ed St. Johns and the Dominica Republic (Punta Cana Area) and always felt safe. Stay away from big cities. Also slums donot mean crime. I have met better people in the slums of Barbados then in St Barts. Also the safest island that I know is also Barbuda. Let me know what you decide Bob

I have been to many islands in the caribbean and I can honestly say I only felt slighty unsafe once (in a seedy part of Montego Bay . Most caribbean islands are FAR safer than some U.S. cities.
