Safe to go now?

Wondering if it is safe to Travel to Cuba now. With all that is going on in the world, friends have cautioned I hold off on going. I would like to go mid-may.
Any thoughts?

LOL SandyFeet! You would not believe how many Cuban Cigars this mushhead and family buys!!

Smokyboy Mar 26th, 2003 03:57 PM

Or does he "buy" them?

SandyFeet Mar 26th, 2003 04:06 PM

No they are gifts from Castro to his old dictator friend Saddam. No purchase necessary.
Hell YES.... just jump on a plane and go. Don't worry about silly people like SandyFeet who have little understanding of Cuba's place in the world. Don't get me wrong. I am NOT a proponent of their political system nor government, but I travel for reasons other than politics.

In six trips (more to come) here is what attracts me.

-Safety
-Sugar sand beaches, Cayo Largo
-Miles of beaches, Varadero
-Super 500-year-old architecture and history
-Havana Vieja (Old Havana) and Trinidad
-Pristine Scuba Diving, Isla de la Juventud
-Salsa Music
-Accommodation range from International 5 * to Casa Particulars (private homes)
-Havana Club Rum and Mojitos
-Museums and Galleries too numerous to mention
-Teatro Garcia Lorca (Gran Teatro), Havana, National Ballet and Opera
-Cuban Cigars – Cohiba, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta, Monte Cristo….
-Havana International Jazz Festival
-Hemingway
-Criollo (Cuban food) including frijoles negros, platanos, moros y cristianos, cerdo asado, ajiaco, pollo assado. The best food is to eat at Paladares (licensed private home restaurants)
-old cars
-Only a short 3 ½ hour flight from Toronto.

So that is some of my reasons. My only dislike is the political system, but that is more than offset by the super friendly people. "Mi Casa, su Casa”…. My House is Your House, an attitude that is hard to beat.

Have a great trip and enjoy yourself.

Steve
