Safe Island/Resort for Teenagers
 

Any suggestions for three 18 year old girls in July as a graduation gift?

The girls want to go without adults, and are pretty responsible. We live in downtown Chicago so they are not totally naive.

I would be surprised if they would able to get rooms at that age.

Remember Natalee Holloway? 18 YO High School student who disappeared (presumed murdered) while on a 2005 chaperoned High School Trip to Aruba - considered one of the safest islands in the Caribbean.

I am 26 years old....I don't think letting them go on a vacation on their own at is a good idea.

However...if you must, I would look into Bermuda. They shouldn't be able to get into too much trouble there.

Bermuda is a very safe island but don't forget the Rebecca Middleton case! Girls that young often make wrong decisions or end up in the wrong place...

I don't think it's a good idea either to let them go alone....

You can always do a "Family trip" but let them have their own suite/room and give them time to do their own things/have their own nights out. My mother took me on a trip for my grad but I had my own suite with a few friends. We still had a great time.

While I understand the concern, I find these responses a little bizarre. These girls are probably all going on to college in a few months, so they will be on their own very soon. If the parents think they are responsible/mature enough, why shouldn't they vacation on their own? My daughter and three friends traveled all over Europe after high school graduation, with no problems.

The biggest problem I see is renting to persons under a certain age without credit cards.

The person paying has to be the person staying, and if paying by cash, still need credit card for incidentals, so still need person who owns the credit card to stay there.

So just like car rentals, which require age of 25, and everyone requires whoever pays to stay, you'll be hard pressed to find rentals in Caribbean.

Caribbean tends to avoid what they consider "spring break ages" on there own no matter how responsible they are.

Europe is completely different than Caribbean, where there are hostals, etc that cater to young vacationers. (south America allows it too)

Caribbean, it's going to be tough.
