Going to Carribean in Jan. with 3 adult children. Want to be somewhere SAFE with activities such as hiking, rainforest, water sports, as well as relaxing beaches. Not interested in an all inclusive? Feedback appreciated!

The vast majority of destinations in the Caribbean are safe and all offer some hiking & water sports and all but a handful have relaxing beaches.

If you want "rain forests" you have to avoid the flatter coral/limestone based islands such as the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Anguilla, the Caymans, Barbuda, Anegada, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao - no rain forests on those islands. Instead concentrate your search to the volcanic/mountainous islands such as St. Lucia, Dominica, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, Grenada, Nevis, St. Kitts, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Hilly mountains like the Antigua, the US and British Virgin Islands have dry climate forests rather than dense rain forests. Lastly, it's pretty easy to avoid All Inclusives.

It would help to narrow your search if you provide more information such as:

Where are you traveling from and are you willing to take multiple flights and/or ferries to reach your your final destination?

How long a trip are you planning?

What type of budget do you have for airfare, accommodations, food and activities? Please give a dollar range, not some nebulous term like "affordable" or "not too expensive".

Well I like Negril Jamaica and it sort of fits your request.

But agreeing with the post above your question is phrased in such a general way, honestly most any island would work for your request.

What islands are the 'kids' most interested in?

Thank you for your thorough response. We are traveling from Chicago for one week. Would prefer a direct flight given the time frame. Ideally would like to rent a villa to accommodate 4-5. I mention rainforest as a bonus not a must. Just other options than a beach, but beach front/view important.
