Royal Oasis - Grand Bahama

Going to a wedding here in the fall. Also have the choice of staying at the Viva Fortuna. We're taking small children. Any experiences with either hotel?

Thanks

We have stayed at this resort in the Tower every December for the past 5 years. it has gone through a lot of changes but we have enjoyed every trip and will be there again this year. The Holiday Inn sunpsree across the street from the tower is best for kids as they have a kids restaurant and babysitting available. This resort was just totally remodeled and now has a large beach pool and water slides between the two properties. Be sure to eat at the Ruby Swiss across from the Tower for the best food in the Bahamas. Have no experience with Viva Fortuna as we like to be near the casino and International Bazaar which are attached to the tower. You will love it! Good luck with your trip.

We just returned from the Royal Oasis a few weeks ago. The new pool area is really nice and the Int'l Bazzar has great shopping. It's a great place for the price HOWEVER...it is not located on the beach. You will have to take a shuttle if you want to go to Xanadu Beach (not the greatest beach in our opinion) or you can take the local bus for $1 per person down to Port Lucaya, which is absolutley beautiful. Also, if you get a chance head over to Taino Beach. We went to a bonfire beach party there with our 9 year old and he loved it as much as we did. Next time I think will stay at Our Lucaya, which is right on the beach. Overall, the Royal Oasis was a nice place to stay for our first time in the Bahamas.

Steve,
Have a great time at the wedding. I'm planning on getting married there myself early 2004. If you have any inside information on how difficult/ easy it was for the couple, and how the day went, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

In this situation I wouldn't recommend Club Fortuna. It's a nice enough place, and mostly all inclusive, but is isolated. That means cabs back and forth, which can become very expensive. I'd stick with Royal Oasis since the wedding is there and you'll probably be wanting to be with the rest of the wedding party. Cabs have become more expensive and if I remember right the local busses, called jitneys, do not service Club Fortuna.
