Royal Hideaway vs. Iberostar Tucan in June 04?

We're honeymooning in early June and decided on Playa del Carmen (yay!).

Read a lot about RH and don't see any negatives other than the rooms aren't as luxurious as the hotel website displays...true? Worth the $$?

Iberostar allows kids but heard great stuff overall...which is better for romantic honeymoon?

Aren't they next door to eachother or close?

THANK YOU for any feedback!

Absolutely Royal Hideaway for a honeymoon. Iberostar is much larger, caters more to families and just cannot compare rating wise (RH one of the highest rated AI properties in Mexico)Not sure where the comments of the rooms not being luxurious came from -- I have been to places like the Ritz and thought RH's rooms were perfectly nice -- large bathrooms, walk-in closets, jacuzzi tub. The rooms are not huge, if that's what someone means by luxurious, but I seriously doubt you will get nicer at Iberostar. Know someone who went to RH on their honeymoon and loved it. We were there in April 2002.

I second the RH. Never been to the Iberostar but the RH is very romantic. I went on my 1 year anniversary and wished i went there for my honeymoon. Rooms very nice, I recommend you request the top floor rooms because you get the cathedral ceiling. Very beautiful marble bathroom w/ terrycloth robes to use. Service and food outstanding. You don't feel like you're at an AI at all. Spring for the dining on the beach. They set up a table for two w/ white linens and you have a perfect romantic diner for just you and your new husband! Great place!! -Susan

Hooray, this is wonderful. Thank you.

Still wondering if they are next door to eachother. Anyone know? Can't seem to get a call back from my travel agent.

The only reason why I'm still not totally ditching the Iberostar is because I've heard so many great things about it. AND coincidentally - and friend just booked a week there for March because she heard great things too.

Are the kudos mainly family-oriented?

I'm trying to understand the draw there. Is it because it's cheaper and still has the AI perks? What am I missing?

Last question: If we can only afford a "bargain room" at the RH, and a nicer room at the Iberostar - should we still opt for the RH?

Thanks again - was really glad to see responses to my thread!

We had probably the cheapest room at RH and it was still lovely...lots of room, comfy bed, nice bathroom, stocked fridge, CD player, etc. For us, what made the trip such a wonderful experience was the excellent service and amazing food. Also, being at a small/"intimate" resort was so much nicer than at a mega-resort...the walk to the restaurants and beach were easy, the beach and the area around the pool were never over-crowded, etc. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Congrats on your marriage and have a great honeymoon!

RH is the way to go. Adults only, excellant food and terrific service. I would not waste any time rooms go quickly.
