Romantic Vacation
 

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Caribbean (including Bahamas an Bermuda) in May to celebrate our ten year anniversary. If you had to pick just one resort, based solely on the romance factor, which would it be.

p.s. We've already been to Anguilla, Puerto Rico, Mexico, St. Thomas and Aruba so we don't want to repeat.

I am a huge St. Bart's fan...very laid back, very romantic.

Bermuda is one of my favorite islands. Not the caribbean but a sophisticated little gem. No other island comes close
to this-thats why it is special. Really off in its own world-far out at sea.
Its upscale, charming, quaint,a modern city (Hamilton),fine dining, fun, gardens, winding roads, beautiful homes, great beaches, easy to get to from the east coast. Unlike Anguilla the 4-5 star hotels could be improved-non the less this is the home of the orginal cottage colony. Some of the hotels you should check out are: The Reefs, Ariel Sands, and Cambridge Beaches. The big hotels such as the Southhampton Princess, Elbow Beach are just -that-in my opinion the smaller
ones I listed give you a nicer experience. As I have been to Anguilla many times, where did you stay there. It might help if you list other hotels you feel are romantic!

Thanks for your input. The most romantic we've been to have been The Ritz on St. Thomas and Cap Juluca on Anguilla...I think Cap blew away the Ritz.

We tend to go inexpensive when we travel, but we splurged in the Bahamas staying at Sandals Royal Bahamian for our 3 wedding anniversary and loved it.

We enjoy more active resorts than little get-away places and try to go AI whenever possible.

Nothing in Bermuda can compare with Cap!I have not stayed at any of the hotels I mentioned-so I cannot tell you the romance factor. I have dined at Ariel sands restaurant Aqua, very nice. Bermuda is an island you should visit. The Reefs does get high marks-great location on South Road.
One of the spots I would love to try would be the Ocean Club on Paradise Island, I have read great things about it. I was on Paradise Island for my own college spring break many years ago!Also Pink Sands on Harbour Island. Have you thought of Parrot Cay?

I am definetly considering Parrot Cay. I think I have narrowed it down to Little Dix Bay, Four Seasons Nevis, Parrot Cay, Four Seasons Great Exuma and Ocean Club. We only have five days max, so I don't want to spend a whole day each way traveling. In that regard, Ocean Club is the obvious choice, but I just want to explore all of the possibilities before I make a decision.

Take a look at Caneel Bay (St.John). IMO, it is more romantic than Little Dix, with privacy, views, 7 beaches.
Also Peter Island (BVI).

There are a few places on St. Barth's I'd recommend if this is an island you'd consider. By far the most cultured, well-heeled island in the Caribbean. The feel is more of the French Rivera than the Caribbean. Assuming cost is not a factor....St. Barth's is incomparable.

St. Barts has my vote for romantic.

I have been to Caneel many times, and Little Dix only once, but they are both good choices!

If you are still considering Bermuda, just a note that the ocean will only be in the low 70's in early May - will get to the mid to upper 70's by the last week. Our favourite spot there is Pompano - www.pompanobeachclub.com -exceptionally hospitable and friendly owners (and very casual - not snobby), very romantic setting - gourmet dining up high over the water with sunset views, great spa, very comfortable rooms and although a small beach - the best waterfront for swimming. The photo gallery on their site will show you just how pretty it is. Happy Anniversary!

I'd go with the Ocean Club or Parrot Cay. The Ocean Club is beautiful.... has a very nice beach... pretty grounds and a fantastic restaurant (Dune.) For five nights it would probably be perfect.

Another great place would be Parrot Cay. I've never been... but it's on my "wish" list. It looks beautiful and very secluded and relaxing.

I've been to Cap Juluca and it was the perfect place. I think you'd be happy with either of these choices.

I've narrowed it down to Parrot Cay or Ocean Club.
I was leaning toward Parrot Cay because I thought I could get mileage flights on American, but then realized that AMEX is not partnered with AA so I cannot transfer my miles.
The reason I am not leaning towards OC is because they only have GV rooms in the Hartford wing and I've read they are old and the least desirable.
Any advice?

I really don't think you can go wrong at either place. I'd say the Ocean Club would provide more dining options... Dune and The Courtyard Terrace...not to mention that you also have access to the Atlantis-- which could be fun for a night--- there is a casino and lots of great restaurants. I'm sure you'd be very content, however, to just stay put at the Ocean Club.

Parrot Cay probably feels more secluded since it's literally the only resort on the island. However, I believe there is only one restaurant for dinner, etc. Not that I think you'd get bored at all.

I'm not sure how your budget is... but perhaps you should price them both out... and see which is a better deal.
