Romantic Retreat?
 

My husband and I are contemplating a second honeymoon. We would like to go to an English speaking island in the Caribbean and stay at a very romantic hotel or resort. Any ideas? All are appreciated?

Cap Jaluca in Anguilla.
Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos.
Caneel Bay in St. John.
Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda.
Pink Sands or Coral Sands in Harbour Island, Bahamas.

Thanks Balmona, I just checked those resorts. They are magnificent, unfortunatly so are the pricetags. I wanted to be about $250 or $300 a night. Any other suggestions?

consider Sugar Mill Hotel, Tortola,BVI's. a very nice small resort. the restaurant has gotten some very good reviews, as had the resort staff. this island is beautiful, friendly, safe. www.sugarmillhotel.com - also more in your price range !! easy days trips to either Jost Van Dyke or Virgin Gorda !

I agree with Tess. It's owned (or at least was owned) by Jinx & Jefferson Morgan who used to write a column for Bon Appetit. Good food there.

Tortola is a nice idea. Central to island hopping on ferries to Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke, even St. John, which are spectacular. Fun quirky beach bars to spend the day at too-like Pusser's Marina Cay, on it's own little island.

If you're staying in the off season, these should all be well under your price range, with LaLuna pushing the upper end. I was able to get LaLuna for under $300 last summer, but their rack rate was higher. Most hotels offer some kind of travel package with extras like airport transfers, a massage, free breakfast, or an island tour, and many of them will offer a discount in the summer over and above the lowered high season rates.

If you give us more of an idea of what constitutes romantic (lack of children? lingering candlelight dinners? billowing mosquito nets over four-poster beds?) and what kinds of activities you're looking for. Do you need a pool on site? Do you need to be on the beach? (Many of the more romantic plantation inns are actually hillside, for example.) Do you want an all-inclusive? Do you prefer to get out and about and sample more local fare? Somewhere in between?

I am looking for candle lit dinners, nice restaurants Romantic rooms, sunsets, beachfront, blue waters and no children. I want total pampering and romance
