Romantic Restaurant on St. John?
 

My husband and I are getting ready to go on a 5 day trip to St. John in early March.

The past few months have been insane for me at work, and he's been a total sweetheart; so I'd like to treat him to a romantic dinner, preferably somewhere with ocean views and of course good food and wine.

I've seen comments about Asolare and Stone Terrace which seem to suggest both would fit the bill. Which of these (or others) would you recommend?

We're staying at the Westin St. John but will have a car the whole time. Thanks in advance!!

Zo Zo's at Gallows Point would be a good romantic option. Great food.

We definitely plan on going to ZoZo's and since we would like to dine prime time (around sunset), can anyone comment as to whether I should make a reservation before we leave? We are going the week of March 25th and staying at Gallows.

brenandq, it's high season. I'd make a reservation, just to be safe.

While we have loved ZoZo's, Stone Terrace and Asolare, our most romantic night was at Chateau Bordeaux - we had a rezzie so we would be eating while the sunset - the view is breathtaking over the mountains and water - and the food was fabulous.
While we had a car, we opted for transport out and back, but felt it was worth it and a different feel and view than the other restaurants. I would definitely make rezzies now, March is busy on the island.

I would definitely make reservations no less than 2 weeks ahead. Also, do make reservations for dinner to coincide with sunset. Otherwise, the view factor is compromised by darkness. All the restaurants mentioned so far have great food and their individual appeal. Stone Terrace and ZoZo's are kind of "in town" with Stone Terrace right on the waterfront near the ferries. ZoZo is on a little bluff where Gallows Point is, and Asolare is on a kind of cliff on the road towards the northshore beaches. Asolare's big draw is its dining porch which overlooks Cruz Bay harbor, Pillsbury Sound and St. Thomas. Chateau Bordeaux is set at the highest point on Bordeaux Mountain (central island) and enjoys gorgeous expansive views of the British Virgin Islands, Coral Bay and south towards St. Croix. Chateaux Bordeaux also has a marvelous French chef who's really French. Not that that really matters. I love Escargot's recommendation of taking advantage of the transportation to and from. Nice not to have to negotiate those roads after a bottle of fine wine.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely make reservations for ZoZo's. The other must go to place for us is The Lime Inn. Do I need reservations there also beforehand? Which has better "mexican" fare, Margarita Phil's or Polli's? Anyone know anything about Ron's Pizzeria? I read that they deliver. Our last day, we are going to Jost, and may want something simple. Thanks!

We went to Pollys and Margarita Phil's and I thought Margarita Phil's was much better. I thought Polly's was just ok. Actually, I thought Margarita Phil's was great! I'm looking forward to going back there in December.
