Romantic Honeymoon
In September we are going on our honeymoon. We are looking for a very very romantic, beach resort with amazing sunsets. We prefer all inclusive but the food must be excellent. We would like to be able to get lost, yet go shopping in a town and have a happy nightlife. Last year we vacationed at the Royal at Playa del Carmen and loved it, but been there done that. All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you might like negril. you can stay on the beach & walk to stuff or up on the cliffs at someplace like rockhouse, tensing pen, the caves, moon dance. on the beach (not ai) idle awhile, moon dance - lots more options. ai's - couples or sandals.

Negril located to the west so best sunsets by far.
rockhousehotel.com or Couples.com swept away my favs jamaica.bookit.com |
Thank you, we thought about negril, would anyone else have any suggestions?

September is hurricane risky in the Caribbean. There are some islands such as Bonaire that are south of this zone but are geared for scuba divers. Have you considered Hawaii in September? That is next on my bucket list when the water is at its calmest and warmest on the Big Island.

I'm going on the premise that you like upscale AI's with better than average food. We have to stayed at the Royal Playa del Carmen also and it has to be our #1 favorite AI resort that we've been to.
We just returned in December from the Jewel Dunn's River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We really enjoyed the resort, the beach, the pools and the food. I would say it was a very good runner up to the RPDC. The only thing that it didn't met was room quality. No big issue to us though. I would also say check out any of the Couples resorts in Jamaica, Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Secrets or the Iberostar in Montego Bay. Just keep in mind that the room quality in Jamaica is not going to be as lux as what you found in Mexico. That's just the way it is. |
Krv, you're right, we are picky. we loved the royal. Are there any ALS in hawaii or even Europe?

There are no AI's in Hawaii like what you will find in Mexico or Jamaica. There is a hotel that offers an AI plan but drinks are not included; The Kona Village, but I read they are closed for renovations until further notice.
When we went to Maui in 2003, we stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel because they offered many inclusions, like buffet breakfast, 1 dinner, 2 tours and a rental car in the package. It was no way considered lux. As far as I am concerned once you have experienced the beaches and AI resorts in the Caribbean/Mexico, Hawaii just sux. Though others do not agree with me. :) I know nothing about Europe. Though I do not like Sandals resorts and think they are over priced for what you get, if I found a good deal for the Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, Bahamas I would consider it. One thing about Mexico that you will not find anywhere else, or least I haven't to date, is that the lowest catagory rooms in Mexico are affordable and include many upgrades that other hotels charge extra for, like jacuzzi tubs, marble everywhere and in room bar set up. |
