Robbery near Regent Palms

My wife and I just returned from our honeymoon at The Regent Palms. Our last night is one we will never forget. We were walking home from the Salt Mills area when an older SUV came to a screaching halt behind us. 2 men jumped out with knives demanding my wallet and my new brides purse! She screamed as we were only 25 or so feet from the Regent Palms entrance!! They took our $$ and sped off. Please people do not walk at nite...we were never told not to!! I know Turks is safer than most but, crime is everywhere...be careful and avoid The Palms-- they were not helpful at all when it was over. ( the police were nice)

Sorry to hear this. Rule of thumb. Don't do something you wouldn't do at home on vacation. For some reason we let our guards down when on vacation. Glad to hear you were not harmed.

Grand Cayman is SAFE. People walk home at all hours of the night including tourists, and no one is EVER held up at knife point, gun point, or verbally and robbed.

There is crime, but it centers around corruption:

Sponsored by the Caymanian Tourist Board. Geesh! Turks and Caicos happens to have a very low crime level, and I think it's unfair to bump this post and target the Regent Palms. It's not their fault, and the robbery was not at their resort, but on the road outside the resort.

The Regent Palms could have cared less that this happened to us. The Hotel told us it was safe to walk...so that is why I bumped it up.
And...regarding Grand Cayman--we have neighbors that go there twice /year and they have told us of robbery at gun point so, the Tourist Board does a good job of hiding it ! Get your facts straight!

I am very sorry for your terrible experience but I have to ask: what were you thinking? The road between the Salt Mills area and the Regent Palms is not exactly pedestrian friendly -- especially at night -- too many gaps and dark places. I stayed not far from you at the Sands so I know the route you would have took. We drove or took a taxi at night to the restaurants just out of common sense.

Well, our big mistake was that we listened to the hotel staff and walked. They told us with the sidewalk and lighting it was ok...we all know it was not ok! Huge lesson learned...we will be going back but, this time renting a car and staying at The Somerset this Feb.

Caribzack: So sorry about what happened to you. I am shocked that the Palms would have been so irresponsible in its advice. Not only is the distance you were walking too far but there are empty lots, construction sites and delivery driveways all along the way. Thanks for sharing the warning.
