Roads from UVF to Jalousie

My husband and I are making our second trip to St. Lucia to stay at the Hilton next week. A couple of years ago we took a taxi to the hotel and helicopter back to the airport. Has anyone taken a taxi to the hotel from UVF lately? Is there still road construction? How long did it take? A few years ago it was around 1 1/2 hrs. Although not ideal it did save us $100+. Would appreciate any insight from recent visitors.

Just returned a couple weeks ago. I took a taxi from UVF to Sandals Regency, not Hilton though. The road was much better than it was when I was in St.Lucia 11 yrs ago. It's paved. To get to Regency took 1 hr +few minutes, and that was much further north than Hilton. I thought it a beautiful ride. Hope this helps a little?

The road from UVF to the Regency is not the same one as UVF to the Hilton. The route from UVF to Regency is not that bad although very winding roads. It goes up the east coast and then through the middle of the island then up to Castries area. I have read that the roads from UVF to the Hilton are still quite bad. I believe it goes up the west side. You might want to post a question to JohnK on trip advisor or traveltalkonline.com He lives in STL and can give you his opinion. His son wrote a post as well. Apparently driving at night especially is a test of nerves.
chessiegirl, how was your trip? We are going for our second stay at the Regency in 10 days. Had a blast last year. Met lots of great people.

We took a cab from UVF to Jalousie in June 2004 and the drive took about an hour and twenty minutes and was VERY bumpy, so we took the helicopter back. We went back to Jalousie earlier this month and after hearing that the road probably won't be finished until sometime in late December, we opted for the helicopter both to and from the hotel. If you can swing it, I think 5 minutes by helicopter would be easier and a lot more comfortable.

I thought that the airport code for the airport located in the north which is approximately 1-1/2 hours from the Hilton is slu (it was when we traveled there a couple of years ago) and that the airport code for the one located in the south is uvf which should be a lot closer to the Hilton which is located in the south...

Please read my previous post. You are correct about the airport names, the difference is that the distance in STL is less of a factor than the quality of the roads. A hop skip and jump distance could take considerably longer in the Soufriere area.

Nothing could be as bad as that stretch of road up to Anse Chastenet...talk about rough and bumpy!!!

GA08, we took the road in July and it was horrendous----took at least 1.5 hrs from UVF to the Hilton. I was told the Irish were working on the road and had quit for the time being. There is now way they have finished it now. Not all the road is bad just most of it. But it was part of our package so we took it. The cheapest and quickest way to get to the Hilton is to contact the Hilton Concerieg or ask a the airport about a water taxi. Ask for Mango.
