Riu Tropical Bay question

Has anyone stayed here? Friends have already booked this resort and got a great rate thru Apple vacations but after searching for details on my own I see ratings from 2-5 stars. What gives? I'm really picky when it comes to hotel rooms and I don't especially care for all-inclusives. Plan B is that I can stay at a hotel close to them if the reviews I receive from you guys totally stink. Thanks for any help that you can provide. Oh, this resort is located in Negril, Jamaica.

We just booked a trip there ourselves for April 10. We've been to Jamaica 3 times before and always stayed at the Wyndham in Montego Bay. The Riu is pretty new. A travel agent friend of mine was stranded here during 9/11 and loved it. She took lots of pictures that I looked at. The food and service was impecible. She said she would definitely go back. It's rated as a 5 Golden Apple through Apple Vacations.

You probably can afford it, it is one of the least expensive AI's in Jamaica.

We stayed there over Christmas week. I posted a rather lengthy review when we returned--try the search engine. Repost with any specific questions you have.

I'm planning a trip for May and we got a great deal here from LAX to montego for $939- TOTAL! That's everything- I'm so excited. Every post seems to love this place. They say they drink all day, great service, alcohol dispensers in your room, restocked with Red Stripe every other day, great service, great food- so it looks like a good time can be had by all!

<BR>probably the cheapest all-inclusive in jamaica is royal decameron runaway bay - aka as club caribbean. but, if you can get a selloff, riu tropical bay could be affordable.
