Ritz Carlton St. Thomas

Has anyone been to the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas?

Is it a romantic resort? How is the swimming pool? Does it have a swim up pool bar and a waterfall in it?

And how are the grounds and rooms? It looks beautiful.

Thanks for your input, my husband and I greatly appreciate it!

It is every bit as pretty as the pix and more. Infinity pool makes you think that you can swim to St. John. Don't do pools but don't think that a swim up bar is quite the Ritz way. Restaurants are top notch, sunset cruise wonderful. Enjoy!

The Ritz has a nice infinity pool and there is a bar next to it but it's not the "swim up" kind. The grounds and rooms are beautiful (try to get one with an ocean view) and the small beach feels very private. It's a bit rocky in areas though and I was glad I brought reef shoes. We had a disappointing dinner at the main restaurant so dined out on our other nights.

Ritz STT is okay- Doesn't measure up to other Ritz properties I've tried. NOT romantic, mediocre service, KIDS, infinity pool is pretty, but very small. No waterfall, no swim up bar. Iffy food.

Thanks everybody...definitely helpful advice!!

I just wanted to mention that we didn't see any kids when we were there - it probably depends on the time of year (we went in early December).

It's a beautiful, peaceful, gorgeous place! Just keep your eyes CLOSED during the drive from and to the airport!!

Agree with Bob. Ritz itself was great. We saw other resorts on STT and thought we made a good choice for us. Off-season rates a bit more sane than high season. Nice location to take the ferry over to St. John.

Does anyone know about spa/massage services at the RC-St Thomas? I understand they are building one that will be completed in 2003, but how about the services now? Also, does the construction infringe upon the hotel experience?

Thanks

JG

I stayed at the Ritz for a week last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The property was taken over by Ritz several years ago. It used to be a resort with an Italian/Mediterranean theme - I forgot the old name. It's located on the east end of the island. The main hotel houses the gift shop, restaurant, shop areas and other public rooms. The hotel rooms are in several buildings scattered across the semi circular beach area. Each buiding has the name of a flower. The entire property was re-done in the fall of 2000 and it is quite lovely. The rooms are very large. The service was excellent and the staff was very attentive. The only downside was that we felt that the restaurant was very overpriced and not worth it. That being said - we ate in Red Hook or town every nite. Although the beach is not huge, it was never crowded and it has fairly good snorkeling along the edges which are rocky. We didn't see any children.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back to this property. Good luck!!
