Tuxedocat, I am now leaning towards the North Shore to stay and deciding between the Honeymoon Cottage at Francis Bay and the Gatehouse at Peter Bay, which is more expensive but looks quite luxurious. Is it worth it? or even though it's "rustic" what do you think of the Honeymoon Cottage?

The cottage that I thought was called Life is Good is the vrbo 108972 mentioned by turtlegirl. i just thought it might be too close to the Coral Bay restaurants, etc. Thanks.

Tuxedocat & Turtlegirl, I'm not sure what Periwinkle villa you are talking about but the one I'm familar with is just past the Westin and over looks Great Cruz Bay. Here's the web address: http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/periw/periw1.html. Even though this villa is close to Cruz Bay 1 1/2 miles it's a very quiet neighborhood. We stay just about the street from Perwinkle and love it. Convenient to town, easy access to beaches(which as Tuxedocat said it's not any easier than the drive from Coral Bay)and very private & quiet.

Just found your Periwinkle! Why have two villas with the same name. Either would fit your criteria just fine. We prefer being closer to Cruz Bay. Any villa from Great Cruz Bay to Fish Bay will afford you the piece & quiet & privacy you are looking for.

Anyone on the island 08/21 -08/30???

turtlegirl: Gee, if you're in the PeterBay Gatehouse range, you have a decent level of options. Of course, the Gatehouse is very luxurious but it is part of a gated community, hence its name. There are quite a few villas there but all are very high-end and the property is secure and private as in priviledged. Kenny Chesney used to live there. It's worth it if that's the kind of environment/experience you're looking for. That being said, it's probably one of the more "affordable" places on the northshore. Honeymoon Cottage is very popular with this board. Several people have rented it and had wonderful things to say about it. You should search it here and on tripadvisor. Also, search a villa called "Hawksnest" and "Caneel Trail" villa. These are in the same general area and seem an excellent value for the price and location. There's another place out near Francis Bay, but I can't recall the name. I'll post it if I remember.
karenlf: Life is Good is set up the hill from the active part of Coral Bay. If you look at the pictures, the restaurants are all located down near the waterline so the villa is not really right on top or anything. But sound will carry and you may hear some faint music but it shouldn't disturb you. IMO, it would just add to the happy backdrop. Coral Bay in general is pretty laid-back and quiet. Most people worry about the area being too remote. (Just the way I like it!)

Tuxedocat, I had a bout of temporary insanity when I thought I wanted to stay in Peter Bay Gatehouse, both $ wise and location wise... Anyway, we totally, finally, and I mean sent the money, finally) decided upon Caneel Trailside. Has everything we were looking for including location, privacy, sun exposure, borders the national park, pool, right on the trail, etc. etc.-I could go on! Yeah! We will definitely make it to Coral Bay, though and snorkel Salt Pond and Lameshur and get a burger at Skinny's. Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind, I know you have a villa on STJ, do you rent it out? Thanks again for all your help.

Turtlegirl: Actually, I don't rent out our place. It's not ready for primetime yet. But even if I did, I wouldn't advertise/advise it here. It's not acceptable to do that on a travel forum, and personally,I'd suspect the advise of anyone who would self-serve like that. When I do rent it out, I won't have to do too much convincing. The place will sell itself. (Spoken like a proud mother!?) Nawhh, I just love to gab about my favorite place and share my enthusiasm and knowledge. Caneel Trailside is pretty new so the condition should be excellent. I think you made a terrific choice and best wishes for a fantastic time.
