Restaurants Turks and Caicos
We are heading to Turks and Caicos in two weeks. I was going to make some dinner reservations but can't get a clear read on the choices. It seems like the reviews for many restaurants are all over the place. I've looked on trip advisor and browsed through a few trip reports. For instance, Coco Bistro is considered the "best on the island" but several reviewers said the food wasn't great and the service was terrible. We will be with our sons(20 and 17). Would love input from any one who has spent time on Turks and Caicos.
Thank you! |
Coco Bistro is excellent-make a reservation now
Other favs: Bay Bistro- Mango Reef Magnolia Caicos Café Coyaba le Bouchon Casual-try Hemmingways Baci Somewhere |
Thank you so much!
I'll call today for a reservation at Coco bistro. Very helpful list! |
Our favorites:
Coco Bistro-----request a table further out in the garden away from the building with kitchen noise Coyaba------request a table in the garden Bay Bistro-----try for a table in the sand Baci-----again, request outside, great harbor view. You can have pizza or excellent dinner items Le Bouchon----stek & frites The Conch Shack----conch fritters. Go when they have live music Tiki Hut----casual food on the boat harbor, great desserts |
Thank you TPAYT! The specifics are really helpful!
Will definitely have some great choices. |
Just a few more:
Noticed Mango Reef mentioned above---great coconut shrimp. Magnolia---stunnung sunset view but after 2 visits just so-so food IMO. Las Brisas---on Chalk Sound with gorgeous views of that beautiful water. Go for lunch on a sunny day. Lunch at Seaside on the beach at Ocean Club West (we stay there so went often) Very good casual food, excellent mango margaritas (on the rocks, not blended) and beautiful view on the beach. The Deck at Seven Stars---go for a drink on nights with live music. They also have casual food, but expensive. |
MR. GROUPER- Excellent casual fish restaurant. One of our favorites.
SOMEWHERE cafe- Next to Windsong Resort and in front of Coral Gardens. Good drinks, beautiful sunsets from upstairs deck. OK Mexican food. Used to be much better food, but has gone slightly downhill. Love BAY BISTRO! For a special occasion and a set fee, you can request a private torchlit table on the beach. Pure heaven. Now about COCO BISTRO - I love the setting, but the food is mediocre these days, and very expensive. When we first started going there several years ago, I was much more impressed with the food. I don't know if it's a change of chef or what, but I don't feel it's nearly as good as it was. Unfortunately for me same is true of OCEAN CLUB WEST OR EAST. The food is passable, but not great. Even my kids who will eat almost anything thought the food wasn't good. |
Funny how tastes are subjective ankd like opinions, everyone has one and everyone can be different!
My best on island is Coco Bistro (forgive me wwk! We usually agree on everything) I also love Bay Bistro (for breakfast lunch and dinner, but the best is if they have a beach BBQ bonfire pig roast) For casual sometimes I need a break and want my American food, love tiki hut. Wings are amazing (and I don't usually like wings) and $14 Wednesday night ribs. Love their ranch! I think Le Bouchon, while setting is just okay, has the best steak and frittes this side of Paris (might be better than Paris) Love Da Conch Shack or Bugaloos at lunch, the setting is so Caribbean at a beach Love Thursday night fish fry at the beach, live music, Wellington sells his very tropical affordable beach jewelry (and he's only 17). Local food from Smokeys to Sailing Paradise to Middle Caicos Cafe all in tents, affordable and delicious. Love breakfast at Bay Bistro, what a way to start your day Love fish tacos for lunch at hemmingways, best in the world! (or is it the setting) Back for Italian is really good No to show tastes are relative, here's where I disagree with everyone-- I've never ever had a good meal at Mango Reef! The setting is amazing, but the food never feel good after. Maybe for me the grill and the heat are Abadan combination? I've ordered different foods there, egg rolls just greasing, salads wilted, steak good but better everywhere else-- they're getting ready to move to Turtle Cove and losing what made them okay for me, the location (tables on the beach) Like I said, I know it's me, everyone else seems to rave about it, but in mire than 40 plus visits to Provo I've never had a good meal there! Maybe they know it's me? ;-) I've had good meals at seaside, my only thing is it's so dark can't see what your eating (maybe fixed since then?) And for me magnolia, love the setting, love apps there, but entrees again just okay. Owner has never been overly friendly either...... (again probably just me, everyone else raves) |
Two out of three ain't bad, Blamona! I totally agree with you about both MANGO REEF AND MAGNOLIA. Have never had a really good dinner at either, though I did love the ocean side setting at MANGO REEF.
I wonder if we've just been unlucky and hit off nights at COCO BISTRO. We'll probably try it one more time next January, but six of us visited last December and none of us found it very good. |
Thank you WWK and blamona! It really is interesting the wide variety of opinions about dining in Provo. So far we do have a reservation at Coco Bistro and Coyaba. I think we will try Bay bistro, at least for lunch or breakfast(maybe both!). I read some more reviews about Somewhere and it has gotten some great reviews lately so we may give that a try. We will probably try Da conch shack and Mr. Groupers. My boys are pretty easy to please so they will probably love the "beachy" vibe of those.
I'll report back after our trip. We fly out Friday! One question- where is the Thursday night fish fry? I'm sure our conceriege could direct us but it sounds fun! |
LauraLF,
I would go to Bay Bistro over Coyaba. But you're probably getting tired of hearing my foodie opinions! Have fun wherever you go, and please report back! Would love to know if SOMEWHERE has improved since we were there in January. We used to go there almost every day for lunch. We also really loved Mr. Grouper. Absolutely the best fish restaurant we've found yet! |
