restaurants in Grand Cayman

We are travelling to Grand Cayman, staying at the Hyatt with 2 young children. Can anyone recommend restaurants for us (both with and without kids).

Also, I can't seem to decide whether or not to rent a car. We will be going there during the week of New Years. Thanks.

Karen, many, many great restaurants to choose from.

Eats - across from Westing but really neat atmosphere, great menue and affordable pricing. Huband and I went for breakfast and it cost $16 US.

Hooks @ Treasure Island Resort - again, really nice atmosphere for a nice dinner. NOt too expensive and the best "Crabby Crab Cake" and "Jerk Chicken Quesdillas" appetizers, EVER!! Also great breakfast buffet, with an omlette station for $8.95 each.

The Crowes Nest - will need to drive or take a cab. Very nice restaurant we had appetizers, 2 entress, shared dessert and two drinks each for $89 US. Excellent food!

Paradise Bar & Grill - right downtown George Town. Great little place with outside seating and view of the harbor and cruise ships. Good stop for chicken burgers or jerk pork/chicken for lunch while shopping in town. Not expensive at all.

Restarante Casonava - very small, intimate and romantic.... all the waiters were Italian - perhaps just a night out for you and husband. This was one of the best meals we had and with shared appetizer, two entrees, shared dessert and bottle of wine bill came to $99 US.

The Reef Grill - very expensive but very, very good. Highly recommend it.

Rackums Pub - downtown.... it's oceoside again with view of harbour. Great place for some tropical rum drinks while watching the sun set and the cruise ships leaving.

Go to Rum Point for the day and have their BBQ jerk chicken & port lunch specials - excellent with a couple of ice cold Red Stripes.

Also, try the Wharf for a romantice dinner as well.

Hope that helps... you'll love the Cayman Islands and the food!

If you rent a car, Marshalls is a good company.

Karen, we just returned from GC last week. A few suggestions, as we had our two small children with us:
-Hooks Seafood Grotto; good food; try to go on a night when there is a keyboard player, really added to the enjoyment of the dinner after a long day out on the beach. They have nuggets, cheese sticks, and a few other items for the kids.
-The Wharf; very pretty setting and great food; make sure that you are there at 9:00 pm for the tarpon feeding. The kids will enjoy it.
-Ristorante Pappagallo; $25 each way cab ride, but worth it for the beautiful setting and delicious food.

We took our children with us everywhere without a problem. Most restaurants have "chicken nuggets" for the children. We wanted to go to the Reef Grill but ran out of days.

We did not rent a car, but if you plan on exploring the island you really need one. With small children, cabs worked for us (as they are all mini-vans).

Enjoy your trip!
