Restaurants in Anguilla

We are heading to Anguilla in May and would like to know what restaurants are the best ones to go to there. We like Italian more than anything and I heard there was a good mexican restaurant we would be interested in knowing more about. Anyone have any restaurant suggestions? I saw the menu for Cap Juluca's restaurants and my fiance doesnt eat anything on them. She is more of a chicken eater. Any help?

Trattoria for Italian; Picante for Mexican. http://menus.ai will show the food for a lot of the restaurants. Tasty's & E's Oven for reasonable & great island food (E's serves 1/2 a broiled chicken that is out of this world); Bistro Phil's, Cedar Grove, and Zara's all have very good pasta dishes on their menus. Roy's, Johnno's & Le Bar are good beach places to eat. The Pumphouse has great burgers.

Trattoria tratmonto is excellent for Italian. The lobster ravioli is sinful. At Picante try the tequilla lime brick chicken. If they have seafood enchiladas they are excellent. Great margaritas. Try the chocolate pudding. Awesome !! There is a new Italian chef at Serenity. Go to www.anguillaguide.com to the forum and restaurant section for more info on Serenity. Le Bar is great for lunch. wonderful salads and grilled food. The chef and menu at Frangipani are excellent Mangos is very good--Live music on Mon and Fri. Try the Barrel Stay in Sandy Ground. Excellent chef and food. Blanchards, Altamer and Cove Castles are classics, expensive but lovely dining experience, So many restaurants so little time.

If your fiancee likes chicken--especially BBQ chicken--she's in luck. There's lots of great BBQ chicken all over the island. I don't know what your budget is, but at places like the Straw Hat and Koal Keel you'll pay $150/couple for dinner with wine. There are excellent cheaper places, e.g., the Roadwell Cafe, on the way to Sandy Ground, which had really delicious rotis (wraps) for lunch for about $5-$7. Also, Smokey's shack on the beach has excellent chicken and fish.
If you want good French pastries, go over to Koal Keel and climb up to their bakery for croissants, danish, and so on for breakfast or to take out--it's also a great old restored colonial house, and they'll give you a tour.
Last year we went to Hibernia, which was lovely--good food, good decor, fairly expensive. In three years of going to Anguilla, eating lunch and dinner out every day for a week, we've had only one mediocre meal, and that was at one of those beach restaurants at Shoal Bay East--I think it was Gwen's--and i didn't care much because it was just a hamburger. We stayed at Rendezvous Bay hotel, and the food at their restaurant, Cedar Grove, was excellent--especially the desserts--coconut tart and fresh passionfruit sorbet to die for, although people have told me that sometimes the food is not that great. I think it depends on whether their chef Smoky is on that day--he's fabulous. I love pea soup, and had some great bowls of homemade pea soup for lunch there too.
Be warned--the food is spicy, which personally I adore, but it played havoc with my stomach. I kept eating the spicy food, anyway, it was so good, but next year I think we'll stock up at Albert's supermarket and make some bland lunches just to give the old tum a break. Albert's and Ashley's are both well stocked with PeptoBismol and so on!

Just got back and had a wonderful time. I was disappointed in Olivers--their menu was very ordinary and the food was not that great. Had great meals at Blanchards, E's and the Cuisinsart. Scilly Cay on Wednesay with Sprocka is great. I undersand their chicken is great. I love their lobster and cray fish. If you like salads Cuisinart has great ones as well as vegetble Pizza in their other restaurant. Have a great time.

If you like to eat at Blanchards, you have got to read their book 'A Trip to the Beach' Its great! They tell all about how the restaurant got started and the locals they meet.
