Restaurants Antigua
 

I saw a post from July about restaurants in Antigua...just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions and specifically any recommendations for New Year's Eve dinner.

Your best bet is LA PERRUCHE. It is a French/West Indian type of restaurant in English Harbour.

Thanks. I have not read about that restaurant anywhere..Is it new or just a well kept secret?

It is not new. It has been around for at least ten years and it's service is impeccable.

I'm not familiar with La Perruche, either, but I'll check it out next time on on the island. Sounds like fun!

What are your plans for the rest of your trip, druckerm?

We arrive later on Wed. so I figured we would get our rental car and then drive to our hotel (Catamaran) and then head out in English Harbour for a drink and maybe something to eat. During the three days we have, we will dive one day, go to Dickenson Bay another (and eat at Coconut Grove for lunch), Fig Drive and Turner's Beach one day...Also see Devil's Bridge and try to get to Long Bay after diving maybe. For dinners, I was looking at the following options, assuming that for NYE we will stay in the English Harbour area: Home, Chez Pascal, HQ2, Le Bistro, Alberto's, La Perruche. There are some others too that I'm interesting in, Sheers and Coco's but there just isn't enough time for it all :) I know you are so familiar with Antigua so any suggestions if you had to limit yourself would be great...Your opinions seems invaluable!

i ate at chez pascal, and le bistro years ago! it certainly was an experience. coconut grove was good too. we went at night, and i remember how beautiful the beach looked.

I enjoyed my meals at Le Bistro and Chez Pascal--both excellent food with attentive service. Coconut Grove's food isn't as good, but unlike the other two, it's right on the water, with little fairy lights and a tree growing in the middle--all of which makes it more atmospheric and a quintessential Caribbean dining experience.

I think the best place to eat is Harmony Hall, but they're only open for lunch. It's Italian/seafood on a bluff overlooking a large bay (can't remember now if it's Nonesuch or Willoughby Bay). There's an art gallery and small gift shop on site, as well as an old sugar mill that has been converted to their bar. Price of lunch includes transport by their private boat out to Green Island for sunning and/or snorkeling. Whenever I'm in Antigua and Harmony Hall is open (only late November through early May), I like to go and spend the better part of a day there. It's also not far from Half Moon Bay, which is a simply gorgeous beach.

Fig Tree Drive is a pretty drive, but I'm not familiar with Turner's Bay.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about Catamaran and the English Harbour area from you upon your return. It's an area of the island (shops, restaurants, etc.) that I don't know very well. Seems like I get stuck in certain ruts. Sheer looks beautiful, for some reason, HQ2 doesn't do a thing for me.

For a little more authentic Antiguan cuisine, try Home restaurant. Have a great time!

Thanks...I will definitely post when we get back. We picked the English Harbour area b/c we have a friend who grew up in that area (but does not live there anyone) Unfortunately, we did not plan well and she will not be there for the holidays when we go. She has given us some suggestions, including Turner's. I'll definitely report back.
