restaurants and transportation in Candado area

We are taking a cruise and landing in Puerto Rico a day early. Staying at the Holiday Inn in Candado and was wondering about restaurants to eat at within walking distance? Has anyone taken the trolleys to Old San Juan or Fort Morro and are they easy to use? We want to explore this area before boarding the ship, but wondering the best way to get there?

Any info is helpful.

Hi

To get from your hotel to Old San Juan you will need to either take the public bus option (not sure of the number but your hotel should be able to tell you) or take a taxi - note the buses are not the fastest way to get around here in Puerto Rico.

Once you are in Old San Juan you can jump on the free trolley that will take you up to both forts - San Cristobel and El Morro - the trolley stops are clearly marked - these trolleys are free - just make sure that it says 'El Morro; on the front.

Here is an idea for a walk around Old San Juan http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2008/...n-juan-part-1/

as for restaurants - see here http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/restaurants/ and also www.sal.pr

hope that helps

When I was in San Juan in October, I wasn't terribly satisifed with the trolleys which didn't run very often and were usually packed. But within Old San Juan it's definitely easy to walk around.

To get to and from Condado, I'd certainly take a taxi rather than the public bus, which is also slow (though cheap). I don't know where the Holiday Inn is precisely, but there are many restaurants in the area that are within walking distance, and plenty more are to be found in Old San Juan, which is a relatively quick and inexpensive taxi ride away.

FYI: It's Condado, not Candado.
