Hi, the definition of a good resort depends very much on what you like to do while on vacation. I have enjoyed Jack Tar Village in St. Kitts for a laidback vacation. Holiday Inn in Aruba is great for a more upscale vacation on an island with great shopping and nightlife.

Club Meds are always great for singles, I would recommend Turks & Caicos Club Med.

Let me know if you would like more info on any of the resorts I have mentioned.

Laura

I am single female, turning 40 soon. I recommend all-inclusive for single travelers since it minimizes all the single travel hazards [cabs, sitting alone at tables, foreign currencies, etc]. I have enjoyed Superclubs [have done Hedonism and Breezes]. I also had a lovely time at Blue Bay Village in Cancun and Le Sport all-inclusive spa in St Lucia. Would NOT recommend Royal Solaris in Cancun [too big, too many timeshare pitches]. Stayed in Aruba at the Hyatt once - plenty expensive but a lovely, unusual island. Hyatt is not all-inclusive, but there are some on Aruba. Go with a great attitude and you'll enjoy just about anyplace you choose.
Hi, I am single, over 40 and looking to travel to one of the islands in the Carribean. I need some advice, like air fare, cheap places to stay, day and night activity. I like to dance, shop, sun and surf. I would also like to visit other islands, if it is not too expensive. Could you help me out on a good travel agency? Thanks.
Regarding the resorts which have been suggested for single persons over 40, I have heard of several of these but am under the impression that most of them charge extra for single persons and most do not do shares. Thius tends ot mean that there arent a lot of singles at these places

In particular do the following resorts mentioned here charge extra for singles and what percent of the people are
single between 35-55 yrs at these resorts
Jack Tar Village, Holiday Inn, Blue Bay Village, Le Sport

In response to REPLY, Hedonism DOES do guaranteed shares and you will meet alot of singles. Club Meds will do guaranteed shares too. The single supplement at most all inclusive resorts is only $20-40 per day, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less than the single supplement for cruises (usually 150-200%)!! I just did a singles cruise on Windjammer, and it was fun, but pretty wild and very spartan accomodations. Besides, single is a state of mind - even if I don't meet lots of singles, people on vacation are in a casual, fun frame of mind. You will meet plenty of nice people as long as you don't obsess about meeting Mr Right or plan on Caribbean romance, etc.

My biggest advice for a single woman traveling alone, is watch out for the resort staff. Most are nice, but you will run into a few who will see you as desperate, wealthy, and possibly marriage-material and a ticket to the US (no matter whether this is an accurate assesment or not). If you are not interested in romance, be pleasant but not too interested. My two best remedies - a fake wedding ring, and the friendliest elderly couple you can find. Many times I have sought out an older couple and asked if I could join them to avoid unwanted attention. They always say YES and will immediately adopt you and protect you.

Just remember - people are basically nice and don't care if you are single, or part of a couple - on vacation, every one wants to relax and have a good time.
Regarding the suggestion of Hedonism- I have heard that the ratio of men to women is very good for single women, the quality of men is not. That is I have heard (though have never been there) that it is mostly exhibitionists. If a person is not interested in that type of thing is Hedonism a good place for them.
I concurr, Go to the Turks and Caicos. If you want a little fun stay close to the ports of call near Allegro or at Coral Gardens. there are few people there though. If you want to people watch and enjoy parties during the day or night, someone is always going to bed when someone else is waking up in Negril, Jamaica.

Take your pick. These are the extremes. Been there, experienced them.

What are the ages of the people on the Windjammer Cruises. I have heard they have a policy of an even number of males to females though I dont know if this is true. However if everyone is college age that might not be the best trip for an older person.

Turks and Caicos was pretty but not the warmest in December. Jamaica is not as pretty but it is warmer, however it rained a lot when I was there.

Hi, responding to question about good travel agent. Try www.all-inclusive.com
Would recommend you e-mail, ask for Cope Bradley (manager) His e-mail address is: [email protected]
He recently performed miracles for my demanding Honeymoon. He beat all other travel agent prices by 5-12%. More importantly, the service I received was better than the prices!

Does the travel agent mentioned have good prices for singles? A lot of travel agents advertise good prices but then when you call they say that that price is for couples and they want to charge singles double their advertised price

There used to be a company called singlesworld that had cruises and some trips for singles but I have heard that they went out of business. They charged the brochure rate for their trips, many travel agents charge less for at least some cruises.
Have I got a place for you! Check into Rhymer's at Cane Garden Bay on Tortola. It's very cheap, right on the beach, and smack in the center of all kinds of nightlife. The only drawbacks are that the rooms are, shall we say, "rustic"; also, there are a lot of chickens wandering loose and the roosters can be pretty noisy (take earplugs, so you can sleep).
It's a terrific place for a single woman your (our) age to stay! You'll have a great time!
If you decide to go there, please e-mail me first, though, there are a couple of guys I'd like to caution you against.

To searching:

Is your suggestion a joke or are you serious. No offense but the place sounds like a dive. Where's the beach.

Does anyone know anything about Club Valtur? How are they for singles? They have a resort in the Dominican Republic and in Morrocco (Africa). Ive heard that the one in Morrocco does not charge a singles supplement but I dont know if this is true. If this is true I would think that they might attract a lot of singles. Ok this isnt the Afric forum but Im trying to compare resorts.

Recently I saw a post on the American Express Web site that offered a good price on a trip. They stated that they would give $75.00 off this good price if booked though them and paid for the trip with American Express charge card However when I called them they refused to give me the $75.00 off saying that that rate was only for couples. I suggested that they give me hald of that off. They refused. So I took the price that American Express advertised and got another travel agent to give me the price along with a discount. American Express was the loser for their discrimination and bigotry against singles. Has anyone else out there had any such experience?
