Resort with air-conditioned pool-side cabana?
Does anyone know of a resort in the Caribbean with rentable poolside cabanas that are air-conditioned or cooled? Ideally, we'd like to reserve a cabana ahead of time. We're looking for a quiet get away. Anywhere in the Caribbean will do, but we'd love to find somewhere with direct flights from Boston. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I've never heard of such a thing, so will be interested to see the replies.

There are quite a few cabanas, but none I can think of with a/c.
A/c is amazing expensive in Caribbean, I don't see that's a money maker for anyone (no one would rent a cabana at $1000?) Having said that, the closest to cabanas with tvs, etc is Cove part of Atlantis. So what kind of budget are you looking at? |
Not familiar with any in the Caribbean. Maybe water misters, but not A/C. Have seen in Las Vegas though. Very pricey.

Water misters would be fine - or even hotel rooms that open up into the pool area. I have a medical condition that reacts poorly to heat so I'm looking for a way to visit the Caribbean and get the experience of sitting by the pool without the heat that normally comes with it.

In almost 30 years of Caribbean travel I've never encountered an air conditioned cabana and I've stayed at lots of the high end resorts. If they don't have them I can't imagine any mid-priced to lower end resorts having them either.
OP is seeking something that just doesn't exist. |
"or even hotel rooms that open up into the pool area"
This is a more doable option. Look at resorts that have swim-up pool rooms. Typically these are going to be found in AI resorts. These are the resorts I'm familiar with that offer them: The Sandals resorts, The Eldorado Maroma Beach, The Secrets Resorts. Try this link also, though it's refers to resorts with swim up pool rooms in Mexico: http://www.tripadvisor.com/SmartDeal...tel-Deals.html |
I also thought of a "swim up room", but then the OP would be sitting in their room with the door open to the pool??? It could work if all they need is to periodically go into the room to cool down.
|
Not necessarily. Some swim-up room have a covered patio area with loungers right off the door before steps to the pool. I know the El Dorado Maroma and Sandals Grande St. Lucia has covered patios.
Here's a pic of the El Dorado Maroma: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...an.html#photos Sandals has rooms with private plunge pools. Though not covered, maybe the OP can use it when the sun goes down. However, they are not heated, so they might be a little cool. |
Sorry, that link didn't go to the photo I found. Try this one instead. We NEED an edit button. :)

I would say majority of resorts the a/c turns off when opening doors. So you can't leave doors open at these patios. The patios themselves do get hot. If the a/c is left on with open windows and doors, it would cost a fortune! (think $700 for the week just in a/c bill). You can't do that to a resort!
On the other hand, consider traveling January to Bahamas or Turks and Caicos. No humidity, temps in 70s and low 80s, no sweat involved! (yet pleasant to stay outside) |
<looking for a way to visit the Caribbean and get the experience of sitting by the pool without the heat that normally comes with it.>
I think the best bet is (as mentioned directly above) the more northern islands and traveling in the coolest months of the year. There's no way really to be "by the pool without the heat" when it's 90+ degrees and 90 percent humidity! |
