The best resorts in the Caribbean are laid back, quiet with back to nature orientation and some luxury. I guess the most action is in Puerto Rico and Jamaica. Cancun or Hawaii may be what you are looking for. I think you should take a serious look at Cancun.

Our favorite resort to date is Sandals Halcyon in St. Lucia... lots to do, but very laid back for a Sandals property. The food is terrific (filet mignon, jumbo shrimp, beef wellington, etc...) and it is a very mixed age group. We met people from ages 20-65.. everyone was having a great vacation. St. Lucia is a beautiful island and the service at Sandals Halcyon is top notch and very personal. They go out of their way to make you comfortable. We recommend it and would love to return someday. Also consider the Grand Lido resorts in Jamaica... I've heard almost all great things and we are planning on going there in the next yr or two.
You asked for it, this is it. I've been everywhere and the El Conquistador in Fajardo Puerto Rico wins. First it's located in a promintory overlooking islands wher the Atlantic joins the Caribbean. It has great amenities and for beaches it's hard to beat the island of Icacos across the hotel. You are ferried there many times a day freely, and you'll feel like you are in a private heavenly island. The tropical rainforest EL Yunque is only 20 minutes away.
Or you can take a day cruise and arrange to snorkel in beautiful Culebra, with its world class beaches, the last and unknown of the Spanish Virgin Islands. They also have golf here and casinos and parties. It's great!! You can't go wrong with El Conquistador.
