Rental Car Liability Insurance St Lucia
I am planning a trip to St Lucia and have looked into auto insurance coverage for a rental car. It turns out my private auto insurance does not cover general liability in St Lucia. Upon looking into rental car companies and popular travel insurance offers, none seem to cover general automotive liability. They do cover damage to the car, some cover minor medical costs, and some even cover very limited third party property damages. Is anyone aware of where coverage for general liability can be obtained or is there some obvious reason why it is not necessary or offered?

Might check your Credit Card
Amex and lots of Master Cards cover
car rental liability.
I have 4 CCs that do.
So I might check on that.
carrentals.com usually best deals
CDW/LDW insurance always wise in St Lucia
Careful to inspect for dings B4 rental
they run scams on this when you bring it back.

I looked into Mastercard rental car insurance here is quote from the site:
" Keep in mind that Mastercard’s insurance does not cover personal injury, personal liability, personal property, medical payments to others, or damage to other vehicles"
This is typical of all of the card and travel insurances I looked at, yes they do cover the car loss but as stated above personal liabilty, personal injury etc. to others is not covered. What is not covered has the potential to be far more costly to a driver than the cost of the car itself.

Ok, you can usually purchase liability insurance and/or collision insurance directly from the car rental company - depending on the rental company the charge may be something like the equivalent of $10US extra per day for each type of coverage.
If you do a lot of traveling and renting cars you may, depending on your home country, be able purchase a separate "hired car" insurance policy which provides both collision and liability coverage (on any car you rent) from most car insurance underwriters. If your travel is international make sure the policy you purchase includes international coverage (more expensive that one that just covers domestic rentals).
FYI - some insurance companies will add "hired car" coverage to your "regular" car insurance policy for an additional premium. Check with your insurance brokers for more details.
