Renaissance Aruba with Kids

We are going to a family wedding in Aruba in early Decemeber and will be bringing our kids ages 2, 4 and 6. Most of the family will be going from Thurs to Mon but we are thinking of making a week out of it. The wedding is at the Renaissance (I guess old Sonesta) and that is where they have reserved rooms. Of course we could stay elsewhere but we actually like hanging out with family. So it sounds like we are stuck with the Renaissance at least for the weekend. Should we stay there for the whole week or move elsewhere. I did a search and did not love the comments I read about the location.

Not sure if we would want to move to another high rise hotel unless it had a really great beach and fun pool. To be honest unless something is great the thought of unpacking twice sounds like a bit much. How is the pool at the Renaissance, is there a waterslide (I love that not the kids!). I love watersports such as windsurfing and sail boats. I assume that is not included anywhere?

This is our first trip to Aruba, to be honest it always sounded too built up. With kids we do not do gambling or major nightlife other than a nice dinner. We like really upscale hotels and good food (our kids are great travelers). Prefer quiet not high rise propertied. We liked our Suite at Beaches Negril last winter, Turks and Caicos Beaches, Hyatts in Hawaii. Peter Island Resort. Did not care for Puerto Rico where we stayed at one of the high rise hotels on the strip (also for a wedding). Hated hated St. Thomas where we made the mistake of staying at the Saphire Beach

Should we book the Renaissance, is there a better place within walking distance? Should we stay there for the wedding and then move elsewhere after? We are going during the low season. What is the best place to book if you want a particular hotel?

I stayed at the Renaissance next to the beach (there are 2 buildings - one closer to the beach - the other across the street). If you are looking for an "upscale hotel" there are better choices in Aruba. We loved the Renaissance though. Great spa, decent pool, and we loved the private island (you take a small boat about 10 minutes to their own private island). The location was good for us - we didn't want to be in the high rise area and we loved that we could walk to many restaurants, casinos, etc.

Let me know if you have specific questions about the Renaissance.

I completely understand not wanting to unpack twice!

But if you can do it I HIGHLY recommend the Hyatt... the pool area and grounds are amazing!

If you are already going to be there for 5 days, why not make it a week

Have fun & Email me if you have any specific questions!
