Reef Resort in the Caymans

We are seriously considering the Reef. For anyone who has been there, how far away is the nearest grocery store/

When we stay at the Reef Resort we usually stop at the large new grocery store just past the airport on the way to the resort. They were building a new grocery store across the street from the resort, but I don't think it was ever finished after the hurricane. They do sell a few grocery items in the liquor store/internet cafe at the resort. It's a great place, you will love it.

johanna32: We were there in June 2004, and we loved it. There is a large grocery store by the airport, and there is a small (really small) grocery store about 15-20 minutes (I think) from the resort. We initially got groceries from the large store as we left the airport, and we stopped at the small grocery store once to get a few things (our family of five filled up the small grocery store!)

You will love the Reef. It is great, and we plan to go there again.

There is a mini mart at the resort as well. It only has a limited number of things, but you can get snack foods, canned goods, coffee, and the like.
But like the others said, your best bet is to shop at one of the large supermarkets on your way out to The Reef.
Excellent resort, so I'm sure you will enjoy it.

You will not be disappointed with the Reef. It's a great place! But the small grocery store alluded to in one of the earlier posts (Hurley's in East End) was destroyed by Ivan. You need to shop for groceries on your way from the airport to the Reef, either at Foster's near the airport, or Hurley's at Grand Harbour. But the store at the Reef is very well stocked and they have an internet cafe as well. Enjoy!

Small supermarket (about 3000sf) to be run by Fosters is opening across the street soon.. with a number of other small retail units.

We are not the developers, but the developers of the place say it will be ready by November.. my guess is add three months.. so anytime after Feb and you will find that a great new amenity.

Meantime yes, stop at Fosters or Hurleys on your way from the airport.

For the Canadians among you, Hurleys carries lots of Presidents Choice goodies :)
