Recommended smaller hotel with nice beach on St. Thomas

I've read a lot about Secret Harbour, Renaissance, Frenchman's. Can anyone recommend a smaller hotel or resort on a very nice beach? We don't need fancy, just clean and quaint. Thank you

Frankly, it's pretty hard to find a small hotel on a nice beach in St. Thomas.
Secret Harbour, which has apartments rather than hotel rooms, is smaller than Renaissance or Frenchman's Reef and has a better beach.
There are some simple hotels on Lindbergh Bay, which has a nice beach but is adjacent to the airport (Best Western Emerald Beach, Island Beachcomber, Carib Beach).
Bluebeard's Beach Club isn't too big and has condos on a decent little beach.
We recently stayed at Crystal Cove Condos, which are on Sapphire Beach. Our apt. was large, clean, and reasonably priced. The beach is excellent but rather busy - there is a larger resort next door and several other condo buildings that use the same beach.
The smaller, "quaint" hotels in St. Thomas aren't on beaches - they're in Charlotte Amalie or its outskirts.

Secret Harbor is the place. It's small, has a nice quiet beach that is great for snorkeling and a great restaurant! It's as quaint as you will get!
Ronnie

If you want to stay on St Thomas, what about the Marriot Morningstar. The hotel is a low-rise and right on the beach.

CJ

Tell me about Morningstar...I've read it is nice, but how nice? Is it up to the Ritz level? How are the restaurants? Are the rooms much better than Frenchman's Reef?

Hi! We are from KS and looking to take our first trip to the Caribbean as a "last high school family vacation". I have 2 boys, 17 and 15, and need to balance teenager entertainment for athletic active boys with parents need for relaxation and quiet! After reading numerous articles, etc., I've narrowed the choices to St. Lucia or St. Johns/St. Thomas - which is probably my first choice (US territory, closer, seems to offer things for all interests, etc.), but I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Also, is Aug. 2002 a good time or am I too late to get something booked? Thanks. sas
