RECOMMENDED (and easy) island destination from St Thomas?

Hello! My husband and I have two tickets to St. Thomas for a 4-day trip and plan to connect to a nearby island - our priority is beautiful beaches/snorkeling. Nightlife and shopping is not a priority. Have been to St John and really liked - hoping to try somewhere new (Tortola? Jost Van Dyke?) Would appreciate any recommendations on island and nice/upscale (but not too fancy) accommodations? THANK YOU!

you might like http://www.biras.com/ but this may be too much travel for 4 days as you'd have to get to beef island tortola to meet biras's ferry. or you can fly over to virgin gorda.
actually with 4 days i might stay at caneel and do day trips to a couple other islands.
on tortola look at http://www.longbay.com/
if you really want laid back on jost: http://www.soggydollar.com/sandcastlehotel/
on the other end of the price grid is: http://www.guana.com/

Jost van dyke, very small, beautiful island. For snorkeling its decent on the far side of white bay by the rocks.Better yet would be hire a day sail to the baths, the indians, the caves etc.The bvi.is great.Dont forget your passport.

Really, for only 4 days/3 nights, and for your wish list, I'd suggest returning to St. John and staying at Caneel if it's within your budget.

With only Four days Jost Van Dyke might not even be physically possible because of ferry schedules. There are really only two viable choices: St. John and Tortola. With that short a time, I think even Virgin Gorda is out of reach. Remember that you still have to get back to St. Thomas for your return flight, and you don't mention what day of the week that is (or when). The ferry schedules may not make this possible.

If you want to fly, you could take the seaplane down to St. Croix.

You may want to look into a brand new luxury hotel, Scrub Island, BVI. It is a private island to itself and is scheduled for pre-opening in mid February. It has 3 beaches, pool with a 15 ft. waterfall, seven restaurants and shops. Pre-opening special is ocean view room, $399/night, breakfast for two until March 31. Official opening April 1 - 30, same deal $450/night.

You can ferry from St. Thomas to Tortolla or fly Air Sunshine, 15 minute flight, and the resort's yacht will pick you up from there.

I am booked in mid-April and for me, the price. at that time of the year makes it worth a try. I will be spending a couple of nights on St. Thomas before traveling there.
