Recommendations for mid-November 2015 honeymoon destination

Jump to last reply

My fiancé and I are getting married in mid-November 2015. We will have about a week (Sunday arrival and Saturday return home). Ideally, we would like to go to a beach location that is quiet and secluded. We initially considered some of the pacific islands (such as the Maldives) but we ultimately decided against that because so much of our time would be consumed flying. I would say our price range for the week (include food, travel, incidentals, etc.) is between $5,000 to $10,000. Neither of us have ever been to the Caribbean before. We bought the Fodor's Caribbean guide and done a lot of searching on the internet about honeymoon destinations. There seem to be endless options, which I suppose is a good thing, but we have found this quite daunting.

We envision us mostly just sticking to ourselves, and we are mainly focused on the aesthetics of the beach/environment than anything else. I think all things being equal, we would enjoy more relaxing activities: hiking or snorkeling (although neither of us have done that). We aren't really looking for nightlife/bar scene at all. We are not picky eaters and can take or leave gourmet accommodations. Both my fiancé and I were struck by the over water cottages in the Maldives. I gather those are generally not feasible in the Caribbean due to hurricanes. But I think we liked the idea of not being in a hotel or conjoined houses. So "hut" or "cottage" on or very near the beach would be ideal. Two places that seemed somewhat interesting to us were Petit St. Vincent and Cocos Hotel in Antigua. Anyone have any other recommendations? Or if you have been to either of these, (i) feedback on the location or (ii) ideas for comparable ones? Also, does anyone have thoughts on the advisability of hurricane insurance? And if you think it was advisable, recommendations about where to obtain it.
