Rebuilt from hurricane?
I know that Hurricane Ivan tore through the Cayman Islands a few years ago. Has the area been recovered/been rebuilt?
|
I was there in May and they have and are rebuilding. The most noticeable areas were heading East on the island.
But they are bouncing back good. |
Still learning my way around the island. Any recommendations on places to stay? I'm planning a trip for mid-Nov and am looking for something on the beach. I'd like to stay somewhere nice but not outrageously expensive. This is supposed to be a romantic get away so I'd like to avoid family oriented places that attract a lot of kids.

Hi. The hotel zone looks really good. You can't tell they got severely battered by Ivan. GC is very popular with families. I can't think of an adult hotel there but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Since you're going in November, I would think there wouldn't be too many kids (school time). Here's my April trip report with pics. Let me know if you have any questions.

Still a fair amount of rebuilding to do in certain areas, but virtually all resorts are back up and running, and they've taken the opportunity to rebuild better than before.
Add to that new restaurants and attractions, and in many ways we can genuinely say that Cayman is an even better place to visit than before ! |
Tom- Are the Catamarans to Rum Point going yet? Any plans to resume? Meg
|
Mason, Do you mean the ferry that runs from the Hyatt (or what used to be) to Rum Point? I have been keeping my fingers crossed for that myself.
|
Rum Point is still going strong, but I'm not sure if/when the ferry will start again, right now people rent cars and drive round the island.
