Rain in the Virgin Islands??
 

I am supposed to fly out Thursday for a 5-night stay in St. Thomas, and just saw on weather.com that it's supposed to rain the entire time I am there! Is this even possible? I thought December was always good weather in the Caribbean. Three of the five days show solid rain all day - not even part showers / part sun. Anyone down there and can confirm? I am thinking I should cancel the trip and re-book for another time.

Weather reports like that for the tropics are notoriously inaccurate. I certainly wouldn't cancel a trip. Get on a forum with locals, like over at Trip Advisor. And see if you can get an answer.

I only know from traveling to Mexico often the online weather looks horrible but when on the ground it's perfectly nice.

Not saying there couldn't be an unusual storm, I have no idea, just don't freak out only because weather dot com shows rain. Even "every day" can mean showers 15-30 mins every afternoon or overnight, not necessarily 24/7.

Anything short of a tropical depression, I dont dont sweat the 30-60% chances listed on weather sites. Most often iF the rain comes its a passing shower lasting 5-20 minutes

The Virgins did just actually have a rather cool, rainy spell but I think it is over. North Shore swells are still up a bit.

I am friends with someone who lives on St. John, USVI, and indeed they have had an extended period of crummy weather. Not much you can do about it I guess!

IMHO, there's no point in looking at weather forecasts for the VI, unless it's the summer and you're tracking a hurricane, or you're a sailor and you want to know what the wind will be doing. Virtually every weather forecast I've seen for the VI this time of year says exactly the same thing: sunny with passing showers, high of about 82-84, low of 73-76. I'm not sure what to make of the "all rain all the time" forecast that you saw, but I will say that (1) I've never seen that weather pattern here in December, and (2) my iPhone today called for "rain," which was the first time I've ever seen it say anything other than "sun with passing showers." And there wasn't a drop of rain all day.

Argh! I forgot to knock on wood when I posted that. Today it has been overcast all day with passing showers from time to time.
