quick fling to San Juan

AirTran has bargain flights between Washington DC to San Juan. My wife and I are thinking of taking a three or four day trip, but without spending a lot of money. Can you find decent accomadations for $100/150 per night?

There are a few cheaper hotels in San Juan itself, but they are few and far between. Some of them (if they are not already booked) might come in under $150 but certainly not at $100. If you get out of San Juan itself, then you can do better, but you'll have to rent a car, which will add to your expenses.

San Juan has a lot of great hotels, but they are particularly overpriced during high season. You need to look carefully at availability in hotels before booking this trip. The island is pretty solidly booked for the coming weeks.

If you are flexible as to specific location in San Juan, you should consider bidding on Priceline. Check biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of the deals and hotels.

Also, when do you plan on going? Prices will drop June-August.

best deal in old san juan is this hotel with double rooms form $95-150:

www.hotelmilanopr.com

granted we were there 3 years ago, and we had the smallest room but it was spotless, with breakfast, smack in the center of old san juan down the street from the most popular city restaurants, walking distance to the forts and the walk along the water.

another highlight, though this is $160 per person, was the caving trip with this group: www.adventurespr.com

BUT this is only if u r a pretty active couple who hikes and is adventurous.
