The beach at Sandals Golf is very rough most times. At Sandals Grand seemed to be protected in Rodney Bay, nice for swimming. We were there last week, rained a short time for two afternoon. We sat in the hot tub during the rain, that was fun, rain stopped, sun came out and it was beautiful.

The beach at Sandals golf is "very rough" most of the time? I have relatives who live right near Sandals, so I have been to that beach numerous times over the last several years and not once have I found it to be very rough (although it is true that the water at the beach at Rodney Bay is generally calmer). There are occasionally some waves at Sandals, but I have never seen the water nearly as rough as it is on a typical day at the Jersey Shore. In other words, there are days when it's too choppy for water skiing, but it's hardly what most people would consider rough.

WE STOPPED IN ST LUCIA FOR ONE DAY OFF A CRUISE SHIP LAST YEAR. IT WAS AN OK ISLAND BUT WE WERE BOTHERED SO MUCH BY LOCALS TRYING TO SELL US STUFF (JEWLERY, WOOD CARVINGS, PALM ORAGAMI!)WE AND ABOUT 20 OTHER PEOPLE ACTUALLY PACKED UP AND LEFT THE BEACH. IT WAS CLEARED OUT WITHIN AN HOUR. AND I DON'T MIND BEING APPROACHED HOWEVER I BOUGHT ONE NECKLACE AND THEN SAID NO THANK YOU ON THE OTHER ITEMS AND THEY BECAME MAD AND WOULDN'T LEAVE US ALONE. IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR WHAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A RELAXING DAY AT THE BEACH. HOWEVER THIS WAS ONE DAY ONE BEACH ONE EXPERIENCE. I'M SURE IT'S NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS ON ALL BEACHES THERE. I WISH I COULD REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE BEACH BUT I CAN'T ALL I REMEMBER WAS SANDALS WAS TO THE LEFT OF US ON THE SAME BEACH.

Johno-
Sorry to disagree with you, but I grew up on the water and my husband and I currently live on the water and have a really good idea of what "rough" water means. I've also been waterskiing since I was a very young child and a little choppy water is a totally different thing. Sandals St.Lucia has ROUGH waters.

Barbara -

I guess it depends on what you consider rough water. I have spent my entire life (43 years) spending summers at the Jersey Shore and, in the last 20 years, have been to the Caribbean at least 40 times (at least 20 different islands). I have never been on any beach anywhere in the Caribbean (including Sandals) where the water was anywhere near as rough as it is on a normal day at the Jersey Shore. You are right -- if you are looking for water that is always very calm and flat, Sandals is not the place for you. However, people should not get the idea that there are giant breakers crashing on the beach there.

JDO

Whether Sandals has rough water, very rough water, choppy water or whatever, my recommendation for those considering St. Lucia is the Jalousie Hilton. It has absolutely calm, still, water, a white sand beach (yes the sand is imported, but who cares?), the best view of the incredibly scenic Pitons, wonderful natural scenery plus your're close to such great attractions as watrefalls and rain forests. For those of you looking for a bar hopping, disco inferno, this is no place for you. But if you are after luxury in a wonderfully relaxed natural setting, don't miss the Jalousie.

I have been reading all these posts and am now a little nervous about my trip in Feb to Sandals/Halycon. Should we go to the Grand St Lucian instead. Is the beach better there?
