Questions about the Jamaica Inn
 

Hi all, I'm heading the JI in July for a 4 night trip and I had a couple of questions. We're staying in a Premier Suite on the beach and we're doing the all-inclusive plan.

I saw that meals can be taken in your room, is there a charge?

Is there a refrigerator in the room that can be stocked? I would like to have an occasional soda or beer without having to have it delivered.

I read that you cannot get a bottle of wine in your room, is that true?

We're going to book a private transfer from MB and were thinking about using Lee's Taxi and Tours. Any thoughts?

We were looking at the Canopy Tour and Tubing for excursions. Any thoughts?

First of all, you've chosen the best spot at JI, IMHO. Your veranda, which is gorgeous, will be right on the sand. Now to your questions...

Please understand that my information may be outdated, as my visit to JI was for two weeks back in the Spring of '04.

I did have a refrigerator on the verandah and it was stocked, for the same reasons you expressed. There was no additional charge for room service and it is SO graciously presented...but I remember reading *somewhere* that there may be a charge for that now.

During my visit wine could be delivered by the glass...but not by the bottle. I thought this was an inefficient policy...but made no progress in changing it ;-)

My advice would be to call JI and address your concerns. They are anxious to please...and you'll have the comfort of knowing current policy.

We also stayed at Jamaica Inn and had a premier suite but not on the beach. On the side of the resort looking toward Ocho Rios. Did have a mini fridge which had two bottles of water but was never stocked. Didn't eat on the verandah. Enjoyed breakfast outside on their deck feeding the fish pieces of bread. Lots of Sargeant Majors. Dinner on the terrace is preceeded with drinks on the deck with great hors d'ouvres. They had entertainment daily at dinner. Suggest looking into Dunn's River Falls excursion. Go on the day when no cruise ship is in. See Tony on the beach and arrange to go to Dunn's River by boat. Snorkeling off the beach isn't too great but Tony can also arrange snorkeling trips. Re wine bring some with you or stop on the way to JI and buy some.

Hi wolfpack, my husband and I just booked a trip to the Jamaica Inn from July 1-5th. We too are staying in a Premier Suite on the beach and just starting to look into side trips. This is our first trip away from our two-year-old twins so we'd probably be happy just lounging on the beach but any other must see/must do excursions would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what you (or anyone out there) would recommend. Thanks!!!

If you want an all day trip I highly recommend a day in Prtland, just 2 hours east. Possibilities while there: Blue Lagoon, Reich Falls, beaches: Winnifred, Frenchmans, Boston, Long bay, jerk at Boston (I prefer the jerk on the beach not at the jerk centre but to each their own), perhaps the blue mountain bike ride (includes a waterfall visit at the end), and Port Antonnio itself- shopping, restaurants, and all of this without the hustle of Ocho Rios. Stunning beauty there, it will make you want to stay there next time....

I highly recommend the Blue Mountain biking tour. It was a great day and we saw parts of the island we would never see.
