Questions About the Jalousie Hilton

We are planning a first-time trip to St. Lucia and are considering staying at the Jalousie Hilton without the all-inclusive plan. How expensive are the meals? What is the average price for a dinner & breakfast? How much does it cost for a soda or drink? We are also considering staying some (or perhaps all) of the time at Rendezvous. Any thoughts on this? ANY information or advice on St. Lucia would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Cherie-

I will be at the Hilton the first week of July and I have been doing alot of homework on the resort. The AI package they offer is $175/person/night. I really haven't justified that cost - although I do understand that drinks are terribly expensive. Breakfast is $19/person - lunch is about $30 person and dinner is about $40 person. This does not include drinks. I have heard so many mixed reports on the food that I am going to take my chances without doing the AI. I really do not drink but one drink with dinner and mostly non-alcoholic during the day - I prefer virgin juice drinks. My husband would enjoy a few glasses of wine with dinner and an after dinner drink or two. But I have worked out for one week - with the standard prices not including drinks to be about $1,500. If you do the AI - it is $2,450. That is about $1,000 difference. I really don't think we will run up a $1,000 bar tab?

I also hear there are some really good places to try for dinner such as the restaurant at Ladera (Dasheen (sp?)) and I plan on having lunch out if we are sightseeing or snorkeling over at Anse Chastenet (I hear they have a pretty good lunch that is not so expensive.) There are a few more restaurants I have heard are good - the Old Courthouse and a restaurant at the Hummingbird hotel? Also I heard that Bang is a more laid back bar sort-of place to have dinner one night.

I hope this information is helpful.

We were staying at Sandals St.Lucia Golf & Spa and decided to go for lunch with 2 other couples to the jalousie Hilton. It cost us $190.00 for us to have lunch "without the tip" and we just had the buffet (and it was not that great) My one drink was $8.00. Ill stick with Sandals.

Cherie- Tracy is absolutely right. My boyfriend and I spent ten days at Jalousie in February and we were blown away by what they were charging for the all inclusive plan! We drink our fair share and we're big eaters but I still don't think we spent anywhere near what the plan would have cost. There are places to try off the hotel grounds: Dasheene at Ladera is terrific, and Bang, right off the Jalousie grounds, is very good and very inexpensive. We also had lunch at Hummingbird in Soufriere, and that was good.

I would recommend the Jalousie Hilton - we had an amazing time. The south side of the island is much more lush, beautiful, and remote than the north side, and the scenery at the Jalousie is just breathtaking. There's also plenty to do, from hikes to sailing to snorkling. We had an amazing time.

Hope this helps!

Cherie-

Just a thought - if you haven't already booked your room if you are not doing a package - your best rate is going to be through the Hilton.com website. I booked a King Villa Oceanview w/plunge pool for $221/night. It is the World of Savings plan. I had to book seperate airfare on Jamaica airlines because there is no charters in the summer and the packages had me coming and going at horrible times. We are flying first class to Montego Bay and then onto St. Lucia for $1,100/person. With the hotel savings I am coming out the same as if I would have booked the Apple package but would have to take terrible flights in coach. Check it out. Also - I hear the taxi from the airport to the hotel is a hellish ride. We opted for the helicopter transfer from the airport and the Hilton has a landing pad - 7 minutes vs 1-1/2 hours. I think that price is justified.

Good luck.

Hello!

You asked about Rendezvous in your original message. Just thought that since we have been there twice I would let you know that we loved it. Great food, accomodation, staff and resort. In all fairness we have not stayed at Hilton on St Lucia and always hear great things about it. But we are in love with Rendezvous and the all inclusive package there is wonderful. No tipping at all and drinks and food are the best! Staff is courteous and we find the view from the resort is great. We love the sunsets. It is a good spot if you are flying into the northern airport as well. Close by and convenient to take day trips from Castries to South and interior of Island. We love it hope you have a special time on St Lucia. A very wonderful island and people!
