question on puerto rico

Is Puerto Rico a nice place to visit for 5 days? My wife and I are planning a trip for beginning of August. I looked at the Ritz and it seems very nice. We want to stay at a 5 star hotel. How is the night life there? Are we better off going to St Thomas or Aruba?? Please advise

I just got back from the Ritz in PR and was very disappointed. Rooms were ok, service was ok- it seemed more like a Marriott than a Ritz. Night life is good- lots of great restaurants but the hotel is not up to "Ritz" standards.

Lots of people, including me, have been disappointed with the Ritz in San Juan. JAS is right, it is not up to "Ritz" standards. Look at the Wyndham El San Juan as an alternative. If you are into boutique hotels, check out The Water Club.

Is Puerto Rico even a fun place to go??

Yes, Puerto Rico is a fun place to go. Good beaches, the rain forest, touring Old San Juan and the forts, great food, casinos, night life. It has it all.

If you want a really nice place in San Juan stay at the El San Juan hotel and casino , it is MUCH nicer than the Ritz. The Ritz's food is TERRIBLE, everyone who stays goes to the Denny's next door and eats breakfast there. The food is so expensive, about $18 for an iced tea... crazy and the food is not even good.

It seems to be true, I have heard this alot, the Ritz isnt up to "Ritz" standards... But dont let this scare you off, there are any more placed to go. Infact, if being in a hotel that isnt right on the beach doesnt matter, I would 100% suggest you stay at El Convento, right in the heart of Old San Juan. This historic hotel is very beautiful and unique, well worth the money. Infact, it has continuosly been voted one of the best hotels in the world. (I believe it is five stars)
If what you need is a great hotel on the water, then definately look at the El San Juan hotel, the Hilton or the Mariott.
**By the way, if you are after nightlife, right in the El San Juan Hotel there is a great night club called Babylon, it is frequented by locals and tourists and the atmosphere there is great. But if you want more of a chique place, go to the Water Club.
