Hi John!
We went to Dominican Republic this past July - stayed at the Paradisus. The resort itself was very lovely. Very nice rooms and nice beach. We did have some complaints however: We really should have learned more Spanish!!! If you cannot speak fluent Spanish you will have problems. We also learned to NOT stay on the windward side of the island - we like calm water not waves. Take the Jeep Safari excursion. This was the best time of the vacation - ENJOY!
Regina - which is the windward side and which is the leeward side? Is part of Punta Cana not on the windward side?

Hello, I traveled to Punta Cana last year. I stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace. It was very nice. It was an all inclusive package. I ate seafood every day. It seemed to me the portions were somewhat small at the restuarants. The buffets of course are a different story. All in all the food was good. Good shrimp. The beach was fabulous. Pretty water great for a paddle boat or a swim. Beutifull palm trees. There are alot of foreigners, which means just don't walk up to somebody and try to start a conversation, unless you know about five foreign languages. If you need help with some translation I asked the hotel guest services. For example I wanted melted butter for my lobster and I just couldn't get it across to my waiter so the next day I went to guest services and had them write it down for me, for the next time. I to love to snorkel as well the beach I stayed on wasn't the best for snorkeling. The water wasn't real clear. I'm sure there are places to go but I would suggest asking around first. The only thing I wish I would have did is take a catermeran. Overall a georgeous place to go. Very relaxing.
