PUJ Airport to Punta Cana Resort

Hi-

Could anyone recommend a good taxi/transport to get from the Punta Cana airport to the resort we are staying at in Punta Cana? Could you just hail a cab and go that way or is it something that should be arranged in advance?

Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks for your help!

If you have booked a package through a travel agent, then the package may include transportation. If you have booked directly with the resort, you can take a taxi or probably arrange for a transfer with the resort. It's very close to the airport.

Where are you staying? When we stayed at Excellence Punta Cana it was about an hour long ride from the airport.

After seeing schmerl's post, I think I mis-read. I thought you were staying at PuntaCana Resort, but you just said something more general. Many of these resorts are far from the airport. The taxi rates are not optimal and are kind of expensive if you are going far away. So yes, the name of the resort is crucial to the kind of advice one might give.

Sorry for the confusion!!!

We are staying at the Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana. I booked directly through the hotel.
The transportation place the hotel recommended wants to charge us $65 per person which I think is extremely high so I am looking for alternatives.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, that sounds high. You will probably be able to take a regular taxi for that much for two people, perhaps even less. Just remember that gas in the DR is very expensive (relatively speaking), and tourists are a big source of income, so you end up paying through the nose for a taxi.

FYI: This is why most people book resorts in the DR through tour operators as packages that include airport transportation for about a third of the rate you've been quoted and often get some extras thrown in. Booking directly through the hotel is usually not the best course in this destination.
