Puerto Rican Food
 

Visiting San Juan in January and want to enjoy the local cuisine and flavors of Puerto Rican foods. I would love to have pasteles, Lechon, tostones and cafe con leche. What restaurant recommendations would you have.

Sandy's in Fijardo for the Mofongo. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Ajli Mojili for Puerto Rican food in the Condada area. Metropole in Isla Verde is another good choice. If staying in Isla Verde try La Casita, a small restaurant, for Mofongo. It is in a strip mall across from the San Juan Intercontinental - opposite a Church's Chicken store.

La Casita on street behind hotels on Isla Verde, as mentioned by previous poster. VAriety menu, open all meals, and their native PR dishes very good, especially if you go when they are not so rushed.

If you're really adventurous, if you drive through the back roads of Puerto Rico by San Juan, along the beach, you'll see the locals on the beach in shacks making Puerto Rican food. (There is a name for it but don't remember). It's really good and very inexpensive. That's true authentic Puerto Rican food.

Millie,<BR>rqf is exactly right...Ajili Mojili and Metropole will both give you great dining experiences. Can't comment on La Casita, never been.<BR>Leilani is refering to the Las Pinones area past the hotel area in Isla Verde, beyond the Ritz Carlton. There are a number of criollo (pronounced kri-oh-yo, and meaning local or country-style) restaurant stands along the beach that the locals flock to.

Another place where you find roadside stands is outside Luquillo beach. You can't get anything close to "home cooking" like the food served at the roadside stands at Luquillo or Pinones

If you are in San Juan during the festival of St Sebastian - sometime during the middle of January, don't have exact dates -- there are booths that sell local food and it's quite inexpensive and good. It's close to ElMorro.
