Thanks for the tip - I think we have narrowed in down to Punta Cana since we heard La Romana is a little off the beaten path. How did you like your hotel there? Any others that you would recommend?? We are looking for good food, a little bit of nightlife, but not waking up at 6am to get lounge chairs! Regarding travel, how far is Punta Cana from the airport? Thanks again for your help - can't wait for my vacation!

Punta Cana has gorgeous beaches but really no night life with the exception of a bit in the hotels. There is no city to wander off to. Depending on which hotel you choose it is approximately 45 minutes from the airport. Puerto Plata seems to attract more young people as there are tons of clubs and night life but the beaches are not as nice as Punta Cana.

The Catalonia is 20 minutes from the airport..the food is decent and you won't starve..the beach is the 20 mile beach everybody talks about..personally I think the CDM had a far superior beach and water..but this hotel has lots doing..plus the disco. Unfortunately, it's far out and too far from Santo Domingo where the "action" is.. The resort is really gorgeous, immaculate, the staff is delightful and the animation/entertainment staff is always doing something whether on the beach or by the pool... As for the lounge chairs..we liked a certain area by the pool and at 7:30 would put a towel out under a palapa..but there was no shortage of lounges...Don't know too much about the beach area, but it was huge... Again, if you write to me I'll send you to the site to see our pictures and my review of the Catalonia..

We were at the Paradisus in Punta Cana the first week in February. Only about 20-30 minutes from the airport and gorgeous! It's a larger resort so it had more right on premises...8 restaurants (which were good) 4 bars, a casino, nightly entertainment, a kareoke pub with a pool table and various ongoing activities throughout the day (volleyball, dance lessons, olympics, horseshoes, horseback riding, water sports etc...). Check out www.debbiesdominicantravel.com for reviews on just about all the resorts in Punta Cana and write back if I can answer any other questions.
