Pre-Cruise Hotel

We will be staying in San Juan for one night before our cruise next March. Don't need super luxury or to be on the beach, but do want something comfortable and in a safe area for walking, and preferably in the $150-200 range. We will have some time Sunday morning before boarding and would like to check out Old Town.

Looking around online, these properties seem to be often used for pre and post cruising - any comments on them or recommendations for others are welcome.

- Clarion Collection Le Consulat
- Holiday Inn Express
- Coral Princess Inn
- Acacia Seaside Inn
- Sheraton Old Town - rate is pricy, but if it is convenient to Old Town and cruise port, then we can probably justify it.
- Embassy Suites Dorado del Mar - This is 25 miles from the airport, but they have a pkg that includes transfer to cruise port, breakfast and being a suite hotel we could share a room with the couple we are traveling with.

Other two highly recommended places appear to have a two night minimum - El Convento and The Gallery Inn.

Thanks for any help!

We stayed at the Coral Princess Inn last March. We actually were more than pleased---we thought it was a great value for the money. It is not fancy, but the rooms were clean, the location was great, and the staff was very helpful. This is not a beachfront hotel, but we were staying pre-cruise for a couple of nights and were not actually interested in spending time on the beach (since we do quite a bit of that while cruising). The price was right and we are looking forward to going back in February.

Depends on which pier you are cruising from in San Juan. If you are cruising from the piers in Old San Juan, then the Sheraton is a great choice. You can literally drag your bag across the street to the boat. If you are leaving from the PanAm pier, there is nothing near it. We stayed at the Sheraton and got it on Priceline for $100 per night. Lots of things to walk to in Old San Juan. Other hotels on Ashford Avenue are good because they back up to the beach and there are lots of restaurants and shopping on Ashford Avenue.

Sheraton is quite nice and comfortable...very convenient to walking around Old Town.

We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan before a cruise. Loved every minute of it. It was great and within walking distance of old San Juan and also the trolly stopped a block from the hotel. Would stay there again.
